Amino Disrespect team member Coach MeLo on her way to a Muscle-Up at Friday Night Lights
Open Intramural Team Rankings: Week 3
In Week 3 of the CFSBK Open Intramural Team Competition, shit started to get real. Well, it might be more accurate to say it continued to get real. It’s been pretty real all along. After Kippin’ It Real took 1st place last week (inspired, no doubt, by the ferocious beauty of Jay-Star‘s prose), Make America Blue Again came roaring back with a 34.9 to retake the top spot by a hair. Powered by Coach MeLo‘s gunz, Amino Disrespect solidified their position as a Top 3 team. Expect these teams to continue trading paint this week, setting up a Week 5 showdown. You heard it here first.
That’s not all! Captained by world-class photographer Thomas H. and powered in no small part by Coach JB (her size to strength ratio is roughly that of a leafcutter ant), Going Dark posted a tremendous performance to move past 50 Shades of Gainz and into 4th place. They’re now less than 1 point out of 3rd.
Will 50 Shades reemerge from their sex dungeon to exact revenge? Find out tonight from 5:30 to 8pm at Friday Night Lights! There’s still time to sign up for a heat right here!
Current Ranking – Team – Overall Average (Week 3 Score)
1. Make America Blue Again: 36.1 (34.9)
2. Kippin’ It Real: 36.28 (36.3)
3. Amino Disrespect: 37.9 (36.7)

Well, now I have “High Hopes” stuck in my head. (Look, there goes another rubber-tree, look, there goes another rubber-tree plant!) Also, it’s true. Though she be but little, she is FIERCE!
I’ve been resting on Fridays a lot this cycle, but now that I might have to work tomorrow (pleasssssseeee I still want to do Strong Fit!), I decided to make sure I made it in today. I didn’t want to do 18.4 since I deadlifted heavy yesterday (plus, for me it would be doing the 21 deadlifts easily and then spending several minutes flopping against the wall), so I went with Thursday’s work.
103 on the C&J complex. I already have issues with being patient on the pull, but these are amplified by trying to do the lift touch and go, as it turns out. It’s really hard to touch the bar quickly on the floor and then go back to being patient! So I knocked some weight off the bar and started over. Definitely a thing I could stand to get better at.
Handstand practice was good. I clearly need a LOT more exposure therapy to be comfortable inverted. I can kick up to the wall just fine, and the instant I try to pick a hand up, I freak out and come down (often with a high-pitched shriek that amuses the other 7 AMers). Need to remind myself I’m a primate and not a reptile 😛

Also, let’s give a strong shout out to The Incredible Hulks who are demonstrating INCREDIBLE consistency and maintaining that last place spot better than anyone else!!!
And we’re gunna keep doing our best until the end!!

I. AM. SO. SORE. I thought it would be better today but it’s actually worse than yesterday?! That lunge/DB burpee workout destroyed me. Going to eat all the food and do all the foam rolling tonight, and hopefully by tomorrow I’ll feel closer to normal.
Worked up to 98# on the complex, then practiced HSPU in preparation for 18.4 with great coaching from Lauren. Usually I do kipping HSPU with 2 abmats, and even then, I have to be really careful because they tend to aggravate my neck. Today I tried with one abmat which felt ok (if a little scary…Stella, being upside down also freaks me out!). Then I tried it with 1 abmat + 45# plates under each hand and got one single, then failed two additional singles. I feel pretty stiff and sore today so I had that working against me, but this is also essentially a new skill for me.
As for tomorrow, I’m not sure whether to a) spend the remaining time after the 21 deadlifts at 155# just trying to rack up single HSPUs for scoring purposes, or b) try for at least a couple of HSPUs, then go to a scaled version so as to get a better workout in. Sort of depends on how my neck is feeling. We’ll see! Hoping for some of that Open magic 🙂

Also, that photo of Melo = what I believe what the kids call “#GOALS”
Stella says
You’re not kidding.
Christine says
Um, indeed.
Janet Upadhye says
Ive been soo sore too from that Wed morning workout Kirby! Can’t walk up the subway stairs, hobbling around. and totally worse today than yesterday
Stella says
I did it Tuesday and I still hurt, although not as badly as yesterday.
Christine says
7am today!
Add me to the train of folks who are super sore from all the lunges and squats on Wednesday. Figured moving would be helpful, so just tried to come in and get the blood flowing a bit.
Fun to practice cycling cleans, and it helped me realize that where I’ve been struggling the past few weeks is with the clean > jerk > clean. Cycling just cleans, then to jerks, was a lot smoother. Fun to practice this stuff and think about opportunities to improve (keyword = patience with my arms!).
Played around with kickups and walking toward the wall, then tried a few HSPU. I have only recently started being able to organize a kip while upside down, so I don’t think this is something I’m going to magically be awesome at during 18.4 (after alllll the deadlifts lol), but good to practice. Happy with progress here.
Now to hydrate, rest, and try to become less sore in time for 18.4!

8 am with Brett.
36 reps RX. I got my 21 deadlifts done in 3 mins (a much better pace than last year when we had to do 55 at 155# and it took me the entire 13 mins almost, so I’m about 7/min rather than only 4/min). Then I went to the wall with thinking I could get 3 HSPUs at a time. That was only true for the first set. I failed the 3rd on the 2nd set and just started getting one or two at a time – coming down and shaking my arms hokey pokey style in between. After failing badly somewhere toward the end I took almost an entire minute to rest. Pulled out another triplet and then maybe one or two more. I rested until there were 10 seconds left but crashed my last attempt – it was all kip and no arms at all!
That whole don’t point your toes/flex your feet at the top of the HSPU is weird. My feet are not usually the focus of a HSPU. Warm this up everyone! I bet you don’t usually do your HSPUs this way!
Overall – I wish I was stronger #goals) but am very happy with this. 4 for 4 RXing this year.
Stella says
WOW Shawn! That’s 11 more reps than I would have gotten. Way to go!
Stella says
and when I say 11, I mean 15…I cannot math today
K HarpZ says
yes shawn!!!!!!!
Kirby says
YESS GO SHAWN! Awesome job. Agree, the flexed-feet thing is super weird (…especially when you instinctively point your toes like I do).
Christine says
NICE, Shawn!!! Congrats!!!
Shawn Campbell says
Thanks everyone! Yeah Kirby I warmed the gymnasts on my team but it’s gotta be as tough for dancers – all those years of cashed feet!

10 AM 18.4.
RX. Round of 21 Deadlifts finished at 1:36.
And then i turned it into a hspu emom attempt- ended up getting 4, all strict. Felt great.
Good luck tonight and tomorrow!

Yay! Good for you tall man!

4 HSPU – Have never done them without at least an abmat or two. I had so many failed reps that I started to enjoy failing. I just found it funny to spend almost eight minutes throwing my body up against a wall. I felt like a fly that was bouncing off a window because it thinks it’s the outside. I could SEE what I wanted, but just couldn’t get there. I’m also Jeff Goldblum.
Shawn Campbell says
Clearly!
