Rest Day

Posted on Tuesday, March 12, 2019

Today is a scheduled rest/recovery day, but don’t worry! We are open and running on our normal schedule. In today’s CrossFit group classes, you’ll have the option of doing either yesterday or tomorrow’s programming, which can be found in the comments section of today and every Rest Day’s post.

Better Know a Member: Adam Scher

Oh yeah: it’s another installment of our Better Know a Member series. For the past 3 years, we’ve been bringing you these profiles from across our community of kind, cool, wonderful members. In our previous edition, we got to know TFBA Victoria Matos. Today, let’s learn more about Adam S.!

Name (and any nicknames):

Adam Scher or Scher-Bear as David likes to call me.

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I’ve sworn never to move back though.

How long have you been CrossFitting, and how did you arrive at CFSBK?

I’ve been doing Crossfit since August 2010.

My ex convinced me to sign up for Foundations at CFSBK, and I was extremely apprehensive as I never really did well in a typical gym setting. It turned out that the type of movements really suited me. I loved the community aspect of the gym, the coaches, really everything about it. Long story short… the gym stuck around, my boyfriend did not.

What’s your hidden talent?

I’m a really good dancer and I have a degree in it. Don’t believe me, put on some FUNK!

Ask me about that time I…

Was 17 and exploded my car on the way home from a rave at 4am.

What are you up to when you’re not at 597 Degraw Street?

When not at the gym you’ll most likely find me working. I own my own creative agency in DUMBO, CMYK, so I spend a lot of time at the office. Running a business takes up more time than I ever would have imagined, but luckily I really really love it. We focus on web design/development, animation and video production The work is incredibly gratifying and I have an amazing team that I spend way too much time with. Here’s a shameless plug for an awesome campaign we made this summer with Crossfit super star Lauren Fischer and LesserEvil Snacks.

I also spend a lot of time in Philadelphia. My husband dances with the Pennsylvania Ballet, so I’m there a significant amount. Philly is an awesome place. It’s so much cheaper than NYC, and the food is just as good. Also, if you’re ever looking for a box out there I highly recommend Fearless Athletics.

And if I’m not in at CFSBK, work, or Philly… I’m sleeping.

Program your nightmare workout:

For Time:
2000m Row
10 Power Snatches @ 135
1500m Row
20 Power Snatches @ 115
1000m Row

Program your dream workout:

“Annie” 🙂

Before I forget to ask this: thinking ahead to next year, I REALLY hope doing the Open WOD in Friday group classes will continue to be an option. If it becomes a choice between the Open and Strong Fit I’m gonna pick Strong Fit every time!

Adam! Nice to know you better! Will your husband be dancing in the Saturday matinee of “Giselle,” perchance? I’m taking my niece and my little cousin and I can’t wait!

    7 AM w/Jess
Strength work: Pullups were great. (Thanks, Jess and Precision Nutrition!) Hip thrusts were quite difficult.

WOD in 12:14 Rx. Deadlifts were quick. Everything else was…not. At least my jump rope stayed in one piece this time. Today was pretty much its last chance to prove itself 😛

Hey Stella! He sure is. He’s going to be dancing the lead part, so you’re in for a treat! I’m going to be there too, so I’ll be on the lookout for you!

Adam is awesome! Love working out with him. Also, couldn’t agree more on that nightmare workout!!!! (19.1 is a close second…)

Adam always has a smile. And it’s always good to see you in DUMBO, but we MUST make sure we play some funk next time you’re in because you can’t make a statement like that and expect not to give us a demo.
Wouldn’t that nightmare workout be worse if it were reversed though- ascending weight and meters?

Love this! Cant wait to see the moves.

Dancin’ and singin’ and movin’ to the groovin’
And just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy

    A) NFT
    1 min row
10 alt wall facing mb scoop tosses
    3 wall walks
    5 ring push ups
    x 3 rounds

    Somehow forgot the row oops.

    B) Bench Press
    EMOM 10
    2 reps 80# + red bands
This felt much ’easier’ than yesterday’s squats/DL’s

    C1) Incline DB Bench Press
    @3010; 6-8 reps x 4; rest 1 min
    30 x 8
    35 x 8
    40 x 8 x 2

C2) Chest supported DB reverse fly
    @2011; 6-8 reps x 4; rest 1 min
    8 x 8
    10 x 8 x 3

    D) RTW- easy movement
    20 cal SKI
    10 strict toes to rings – 5-3-2
    20 cal AB
    10 ring push-ups
    x 20 min

    2 rounds plus ski.
Shoulder didn’t feel too good on the rings so took my time.

    Adammmmmm!!!!

My only blog complaint is how is it not the picture of FGB the year he went as PRINCE?!? Contemplative Prince is his best look!

Oooh you are not wrong. I have always thought Prince and the Row-volution wuz robbed of the best costume award.
