CFSBK is Thankful For You!
We’ve posted this as an Athlete of the Month article, however the language and sentiment keeps being appropriate. We coaches would like to honor you all, and this is the forum to do it in. You come to Degraw Street from near and far, even spending up to an hour on a bike or subway to train with us. You come to us early in the morning before work or school, you make time in your lunch hours to WOD with us, and you even make it in in the evening after a long day spent at a desk or caring for kids. You do “shifts” at the gym, caring for your children while your spouse gets their WOD on. You’re willing to hold someone else’s kid so that their mom or dad can finish up at the end of a class. You make time for not just the fitness aspect of CFSBK but you also put in hours and energy to volunteer at events both in-house and on the road. You do your best to learn the names of the people who are squatting and skipping rope next to you. You cheer, hoot, and holler encouragement at your people.
SBKers are YOUR people… You lift hard, you row hard, and you push yourself and everyone around you to be better. You are coachable. You are humble, and eager to help a new member feel right at home. You travel and visit CrossFit gyms around the country and world at large and represent South Brooklyn well. You are proud, if not even a little conceited, that you work out at CrossFit South Brooklyn. You bring your dogs into the gym so the dog-less among you can get a little canine love in the form of a belly rub or a lower leg tongue bath. You socialize outside of the gym with other SBKers and know how to show love the Brooklyn way, whether or not you were born here. Most of all, you “get it.” You are not selfish and you love to see people do well, which is a big part of why we do well.
Thanks to all you special people who make CFSBK what it is and are part of our team. It doesn’t exist without you.

What is one thing you’re thankful for and where do you find yourself on Thanksgiving today?

Mixed bag at Oly class last night. Horrible, terrible, horrible snatch day. I am having a lot of trouble in the bottom position. If I can solve this I think that I can make some nice jumps in weight because my second pull is pretty good. I was trying to hit a modest 1 lbs PR, missed the first couple, then the voices in my head took over and it all went euckily from there.
Redeemed myself in the C&J and went home with an 11lbs PR. I think I hit probably the best clean of my life as well (I am "thankful" for that). Congrats to Matty Ch. He had a great day under the bar. Ro and Melo were doing their workouts at the same time. Needless to say, they are scary skilled.
As many of you know, I am a notorious lifting shoe head. Rogue has a great sale on the Adidas AdiPowers today. $50 off. ($70 off the red ones if you happen to be a size 13 wearing power forward). These NEVER go on sale, so if you are thinking of buying me a black and red pair size 11 now is the time to do it!
Finally, regarding the question of the day, I have many things to be thankful for so I will not choose one. Among them, however, are the great coaches and athletes at CFSBK. Thanks for making this place my sanctuary from the often cruel, maddingly distressing world we live in at times. I am spending Thanksgiving in GOD's country, Brooklyn USA. Seeya at the 8:00 class.

Aw that post brought a tear to my eye! I am thankful for CFSBK, fitness and health! Happy Thanksgiving CFSBK!
From Colleen, in Mexico City, waiting to get my WOD on at Crossfit Roca Polanco in ten minutes!

Thanksgiving with extended fam in the west village.
I'm thankful for the ride over the East River on a cool drizzly day, and for life in Brooklyn, including, in no small part, all you wonderful people obsessed with heavy stuff being heavy.
Today's WOD with 32kg American KB swings, 20#/10' wallballs in 21:16.
I started with a good pace. I think I hit the wallballs around 11:something, and was hoping to finish this WOD around 17:00, but I sort of collapsed mentally on the wallballs. They took me about 6 minutes. I managed sets of 5, and after that the run was more of a walk/waddle most of the way.
Also, yesterday I did the following at home:
3x5x55# DB strict presses and
15×5 strict chin-ups (4min rest between sets)
Yesterday was supposed to be a rest day since I had three days on before that. I might be worn down. Gonna take a rest day tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Love this post above. I'm Thankful that I found such a great community and made some awesome friends from it..
Dragged my butt in and made it through the workout in 20:13. But full disclosure: subbed db thrusters (15# each hand) for wall balls because for some reason wall balls are the only thing still bothering my shoulder.
I earned my two, yes two, slices of pie. En route to Long Island then upstate for the weekend!

Did a heavily modified version of this today at the Apple Valley Fitness Center in lovely Howard, Ohio. No boxes, no kettlebells, no med balls, no erg, and it was snowing, so…
Warmup #2 with 50# dumbbell swings. Then my version of today's Metcon:
50 double unders
50 18" rickety old chair jumps
50 50# dumbbell snatches
50 double unders
50 burpees
50 dumbbell thrusters with 2 25# bells
50 double unders
Finished in 21:12. Then butterfly pull-up practice. Lots of weird looks from retirees walking on the treadmills. Also, working out in front of a mirror is weird.

Dropped in at Crossfit Acadia in Maine yesterday– I'd definitely recommend this gym!! The owner knew cfsbk and reads Inside the Affiliate!
The programming was very similar to sbk and was super fun! Everyone was so friendly and the coaching was excellent.
Warm-up: 2 rounds, 25 jumping jacks &15 thrusters with an empty bar. Skill: bench press. I did 55×3. 65 was too heavy. WOD: 15 push presses, 10 toe to bar, 15 wall balls, 10 russian KB swings. AMRAP in 18 min. The coach worked with me on doing some kip swing things? since I can't do toe to bar. It was really fun and helpful. It was also fun being in a class with only a few other people.
Today I ran two miles on a snowy road, then did 4 rounds of 90 single jump ropes, 25 burpees, 20 hollow rocks, and 10 dumbbell thrusters in my brother's basement.
Happy thanksgiving! I'm definitely thankful for the new found strength and love of exercise crossfit has given me. Thanks to everyone for being amazing!

I am thankful for the opportunity to take Margie's pastured turkey off her hands. That sucker was DELICIOUS. I am also thankful to have tried grass-fed raw milk yesterday for the first time. And I didn't even have to feel like a criminal for buying it! Now if only Pennsylvania could be as relaxed about alcohol as they are about milk, we'd really be in business.
In the Philly burbs through Saturday night. I am also thankful that there's a new CF affiliate near my parents' house. They have open gym on Fridays and I have A LOT of butter-soaked cornbread stuffing to work off at this point.
