Brooklyn Community Foundation Initiatives
Brooklyn Recovery Fund
In the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Brooklyn Community Foundation launched the Brooklyn Recovery Fund to raise and direct resources to support emergency, intermediate and long-term needs of residents and small businesses in coastal Brooklyn neighborhoods. The fund has since backed the work of over 50 local agencies and institutions, with an emphasis on recovery and resiliency through community-wide nonprofit coalitions in Red Hook, Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Gerritsen Beach and Canarsie. One of the most successful grassroots responses to Sandy, thousands of donors contributed to a total of over $3.5 million, which will be fully directed by the end of 2013.

Happy Birthday Jess!
6am with Melissa and McDowell
Yesterday's workout: Benched #170 x 8 and ran out of time before a second attempt. I would have gone for 175, which I think I would have had, barely.
WOD: 5 rounds of windmills and toes to bar. Dumbbells were #35, #40, #40, #45, and #50. Toes to bar were strict the first round, then kipping after that. All but one round unbroken for the ttb. Windmills were interesting/weird.
Sick yesterday, and still feeling it today.
Happy Birthday Lady Fox!

That, "Our Narrow Slice" video is amazing, As Vsauce always is.
The end is very paleo.
Happy Birthday, Jess, and….Happy Birthday, Joy!!!
Happy birthday Jess!!
9am private remedial snatch class with Noah. Definitely feel like I made some progress. Thanks Noah! Looking forward to continuing with this next week.
Has anybody seen my notebook by any chance? I am 99.9% certain I left it behind yesterday after the 10am class, probably on or around the front desk, or somewhere equally stupid. It was not in the crates or Lost and Found.
It's a black Moleskine with a CFSBK sticker on the front and my name written on the top side of the pages. I am probably going to die if I don't find it. Not panicking.
Folks! I'm having pre-birthday drinks at Pacific Standard (between St. Marks and Bergen) tonight around 8 p.m. Would love to see you all!
Joy, your birthday is today or tomorrow? Our records show tomorrow. Inquiring coaches want to know!
It is tomorrow!
Happy birthday Joy!
Sorry, David. I felt the need to let the cat out of the bag early on Joy!

So frustrating, need to go for 160 or 161 next week to just get that tiny PR. Of note: the slow motion video capture on the new iPhone is awesome.
As I was stripping my bar down after this, Josh put "Bring Sally Up" on, so of course I tried the workout. At 115# I barely made it to the end, and that was after missing the first 15 seconds. It was terrible.
Handstand practice afterward to drain the pain out of my quads. As least one really good 5+ second hold.
I've taken back-off week as an excuse to do yoga and be in bed mostly be 9:30 almost each night this week, but it also coincided nicely with wanting to taper before Aileen and I run the Staten Island half on Sunday. I came in tonight to do a 5K and got the route from Josh that we ran during the Spartan Race training in May, because one of those runs was when I sprained my ankle and was out for almost two months. Running it again tonight and feeling so much stronger and not scared felt like those times when I was a kid and fell off my bike or ate shit on a hurdle during track practice, and made myself get back up and do it again. Take that, crappy BK sidewalks!
And happy birthday, Jess and Joy!
