This week’s action saw a tightly contested game between a newly focused Fighting Tacos team and some other fools. In their third game of the season the Tacos played a much better team game, highlighted by much better positioning, communication, and ball control. After an early goal, the Tacos dominated most of the game, but were unable to translate their effort into goals. Strong midfield play from Coach MeLo, Kate R. and Jen S kept the Tacos on the attack. In her season debut, Inka H.’s brilliant play led to her being marked by the other team as a threat, and she soon incurred the wrath of their enforcer. The rough play from the opponents led to a “discussion of the rules” that resulted in a red card send off for striker Dan H. Soon thereafter, the iron fist of the referee’s authority crashed down on keeper Luke A. resulted in his ejection as well. The Tacos played the rest of the game out with five players against seven, but refused to yield more goals, despite fill-in goalie Noah’s best efforts to do so.
Game Ball Goes To: The Referee, who had more impact on the game than any of the players, just like referees are supposed to (!?)
Next Game: Sunday, 10/6 @ 2PM vs Warby Parker @ Brooklyn Bridge Park

Open WOD 11.1 Explanation
MattyChm says
6am with David
Partnered with Peter for the WOD.
Last time we did this in March I scaled the weight down and hit three rounds plus 30 DUs. This time was Rx'd and 4 rounds plus 15 DU. Very happy with that kind of improvement. That said, this was a gasser. DU's were frustrating at first and I couldnt get the rythm down even after the warm up with D.O. They smoothed out and I was able to get 15-20 at a clip.
Felt good throughout the snatches but had to break them down to 5-5-5 towards the end. Mostly to catch my breath.

YOW, this was bad. I went into this thinking, "I was about half as good as Iceland Annie at 13.2, so I should get 4 or 5 rounds, right?" HA HA HA. 13.2 didn't have double unders in it. I am WAY less than half as good as Iceland Annie in a WOD that involves DUs, as it turns out.
3 rounds + 4 DU, Rx weight but 20 DUs counting attempts per round. I did 30 in round 1 but it became clear very early on that I was going to be cursing the jump rope instead of moving if I kept doing that. Usually I can put them together in at least twos and threes, but today it was like I'd forgotten how to do them at all. Ugh.
I blame the knot I found in my jump rope afterward. Yeah.

6am wtih D.O. Third time doing this workout. The first time I managed 4 rounds + 20 DUs. The second: 4 rounds + DUs + 5 snatches. Today: 4 rounds + DUs + 11 snatches. Small but steady improvement. Was shooting for 5 rounds today and fell ever so slightly short. DUs were painful in the first round and I have the welts to prove it. They recovered for subsequent rounds, but I didn't do any round unbroken.

Fran – 6:21 Rx
Thrusters were unbroken for the 21 and 9. For the 15 reps, I broke it up 7 and 8. These were fairly easy.
Kipping pull ups is where I lost my time. After the first 5, I was basically doing singles for the entire workout. I need to work on cycling them.
I completed my previous Fran in 7:14. But that was with jumping pullups so this was a vast improvement.

I did Fran (7:47, 85#, jumping PU) at last night's 7:30pm class, so coming in at the 7am class to do this was probably aggressive, especially since I wanted to do this at Rx. Went ahead with the Rx and got 2.5 rounds plus one rep of the snatch. Slow, but Rx is still a push for me as my snatch is a work in progress and my DUs are still inconsistent. So won't look great on the board, but I'll take it.

6am today with a solo D.O., running the class like a boss. Oh wait, he *is* a boss…
I finished 3 snatches short of 4 rounds.
Doubles were alright, first and last rounds unbroken, although I took too much break time, almost 30 seconds, after my fourth set of doubles.. My pelvis is super sore in front right now from hitting the bar when snatching, probably not a sign of good form/keeping the bar close. Fun WOD. Oh, and I PR'ed my doubles for some reason while warming up: got 56 in ~30 seconds during our last warmup set.

12pm with David and Josh.
I was apprehensive about this one, as these are two things I am not good at. During the warm-up, the 33# bar felt heavy and my double-unders were not pretty.
Partnered with Carissa, who is always fun and encouraging. Thanks Carissa! Got through 4 rounds and 3 double unders- with 45# and 20 DU attempts. Actually, it went pretty well and I think we scaled appropriately. And I didn't feel like crying like the last time I did DU's in a crush week workout. My snatches even looked mostly like snatches! Yay!
Question for people with long/ longish hair… I always have a problem with my hair falling down when I do DU's. Am I missing something? Is there some sort of magical hair tie out there that will stay put? Drives me crazy!!!

All, forgive the 2nd post of the day (and cross-post to FB):
Some of you may remember at the Subway Series I had a "Battle" T-Shirt on and was asking folks to have their picture taken with a "Battle" sign. Beyond just the specific fight my friend David Eagleson's son, Drew, is battling, here is some more background on what Battle is all about. Personally, I think this concept of "BATTLE" is great and very much in line with the ethos of our wonderful gym: http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20131003-SPORTS-310030385

Along the snatch lines… Just in case you were sitting at work today, or puttering around home, and absently thought to yourself, "Huh, I wonder how snails copulate?", a tangential research trail at work today serendipitously led me to the answer. Yes, it's snail porn, set to some sexy D'Angelo beats. Be blessed.
(Anyone with that trypophobia business should probably avoid watching it. Or just anyone that's easily grossed out. I'm probably going to get banned from the blog.)

4 rounds plus 5 double unders rx'd. More like fumble unders. Couldn't catch my breath at all. Snatches felt good, and I got one more round than the last time I did this with DU attempts. One round is not nothing! Attempted the sadistic plate pinch walk cash out nonsense with 25# plates on the first round, before coming to my senses and switching to 15#s.
Crystal says
6:30 with Arturo and josh
30 double unders, 15 snatches at 43#- 4 1/2 rounds
That was awful. The only positive is I have to be comfortable with that weight now. My forearms were so tight.
25# plates to 3rd ave and back. I don't listen or more likely still don't know where any streets are in the place I've lived for 8 years. My left hand was the weak link. It would not hold the weight for more than 2 rectangles of sidewalk. Then I ran 2 laps and rowed 500m.
I am sad that is was my last crush week wod. Maybe I'll do Saturdays at og tomorrow. Anyone else?
Todd says
Crystal meant 4th ave. Not only does she not know where streets are, but then she forgets 30 minutes later.
6:30 also with Arturo and Josh
I was excited rather than scared for this one, but it beat me up even worse than Fran. 5 rounds exactly rx'd, and I really had to enter the aforementioned "pain cave" to get those last 5-10 snatches done. Doubles went either unbroken or close after a few early stumbles.
Did the cash out with 25s, which was plenty. Went to get up on a bar for some hang time and both calves started to seize up as I got onto my toes, so I did some stretching, kb calf mashing, and voodoo flossing before elevating them for a few minutes. We'll see if they are any less tight than usual tomorrow.

4 rounds plus 12 du's Rx. First time I've done snatches in a loooong time. The shoulder mobility actually felt ok.
