There are no classes today due to the CF Gymnastics Seminar we’re hosting. We’re excited to see what day 2 brings, yesterday we learned about hollow body positions, shoulder activation, ring and floor inversions as well as how to approach gymnastics training in CrossFit. We’ll see everyone tomorrow!

Brooklyn Paleo

What are your favorite places to get Paleo-friendly grub in Brooklyn? (Question Courtesy, Stella Z)

in our meat CSA, we got a sirloin tip roast. mine is gorgeously tied and ENORMOUS.
it's my first time making this cut. i took it out of the vaccuum sealing to defrost it; it's been drying out nicely in my fridge on a plate for 24 hours. i THINK i'm going to make a dry rub for it (pinching recipe from Aidells/Kelly's "The Complete Meat Cookbook") and roast it.
i'm concerned, though, because it's really too large to blast at high temp, like i would if it were 2 lbs or less. it won't cook through. at the same time, the last thing i want to do is low-and-slow roast – it will surely dry out.
has anyone made this cut yet?

I asked this question because I only have one place that I go and it's Bierkraft! Which I LOVE, but I'd also like a few more ideas. Hubby's and my favorite restaurant near us is Franny's, which is decidedly NOT Paleo.
We have a big kitchen so we cook a lot at home and mostly are in Manhattan if we're going to eat out, but I would love some more options in our borough (because it's the best!).

The main thing about this list is that the places have a nice selection of meat/vegies. I am definitely pro fries (which I minimize due to the crappy seed oils) and potatoes so with that, it's not that difficult and my main concern becomes gluten. The better restaurants are all sensitive about it now, so we ask and get a pretty accurate account of gluten content.

Rothchilds (grass-fed burgers and steak, not the corn bread or fried chicken– which is great)
My biggest problem with eating out is food sourcing. I only eat grass-fed at home, so invariably I know my food quality is better if I cook and I won't have flour contamination. That said, since we cook almost all our meals having some grain-fed beef once a week isn't the end of the world. Then I save a cheat meal for something really good. Like Franny's!

I'm going to have to check out all these recommendations! While I usually cook all my own food I sometimes get lazy so that means take out. These are my usual take out options. (the diner is usually sit down situation… it is next door… and I'm from Jersey… don't judge me)
In my neighborhood (Crown Heights):
Chavela's (Mexican) – check out the blog post
Udom (Thai) – green or red curry with extra veggies rather than rice
Gen (Sushi)- sashimi
Neptune Diner II – Omelets with side salads, or a burger with no bun
Sapid or Bombay Masala (Indian)- Tandoori Chicken, no rice
Lunch options near my job (DUMBO):
Los Papi's (spanish deli) – whatever meaty stew looks good that day.
Bridge Fresh (bodega/grocery store) – Salad Bar
Foragers Market (fancy grocery/deli) – Salad Bar
Miso (sushi)- Sashimi/salad

the farm on adderly (ditmas park) — everything here is amazing
karloff (cobble hill) — uses grass-fed meats, cage free eggs and hudson valley dairy
ted & honey (cobble hill) — has a really good grass-fed bison burger on the dinner menu and gets all their meat from dines farm. they smoke their own bacon too.
hibino (cobble hill) — the best japanese food in town. they have locally sourced and wild fish a lot of the time.
