So you missed that last lift by a fraction? How do you recover from a failed attempt?
How do you handle it when when you miss it by a mile?

Good luck Hobokeners.

I can tell you that I missed a goal on DL by a mile, and it was frustrating, but I have gone back, and I am attacking it. Accessory work of deficit pulls, lunges, and lots of deadlift work, and I am trying to get that extra rep or two out and pay those dues. I don’t know how else to look at it. I am going to pr it soon enough!
Missing close is a good frustrating. You know it’s coming soon.

Anyone interesting in bench-pressing tonight? I’m planning to do a little session today at 6PM.
Fox says
If I miss by a (relative) fraction I tell myself that I’m close and will get it next time. This can be frustrating but it helps to have Shane and David as eyes and training partners to keep my mind in that mindset.
If I miss by a mile it’s easy to laugh it off and chalk it up to a bad day and a fluke. At this point I have a pretty good idea what to expect out of ME attempts so if I’m off by a lot I know something out of the ordinary happened. No. Big. Deal.

I personnaly am a bundle of nerves about Hoboken tomorrow. I’m still icing and heating a painful neck/upper back from squats on Wednesday. Feels much better than yesterday moring. In all my nervousness I’m still looking forward to competing though, and to watching Josh, Jess, and Dan kick ass on these WODs.

@Fox: Icy Hot, Aleve, and Caffeine should get you through tomorrow just fine! Good luck and have fun!!

Having missed a few heavy squats by a mile this morning, I can say that it’s not the end of the world. As long as I don’t injure myself, I’m perfectly happy to try to figure out what caused the miss (bad form in this case), work on improvements, and try again another day. Shane gave me some great tips to get me back on track and had me drill the movement with a lighter weight to reinforce the corrections. I’ll come back strong for another attempt next week.

back in the gym tonight! wanted to work on technique instead of super heavy so worked snatches. thanks margie for the cues.53x2x3, 73x2x3, 83x2x3, 93x2x3, 103x1x5?, 113 (ugly), 113PR! (not perfect but okay), 113F, 113Fif i try to avoid missing by a mile by not having a hard and set end point when i show up. maybe that’s a bad game plan, but it means if i feel shitty in my warm-ups, i know to adjust the attempts. if i miss by a little bit, i’ve been trying to be better about trying again instead of being super negative about it. sometimes lately i’ve been able to fail a couple times and then rally and get it. that’s all about being positive and thinking about what didn’t go well with the last rep and waiting the full 3-5 minutes i need and doing it.

Came in today for a little bench-press session to find that Margie had very kindly set up a bench for me.
WU: 45×5, 95×5
Work: 125×3, 145×3, 155×3, 165×2 (fail on 3rd). Then, rep-out: 115×17
Rob I. was good enough to spot me – thanks!

As everyone knows my wife and I just had a baby, which is super exciting. I just wanted to take a second to post (which is something I don’t do very often). I wanted to thank every Crossfit parent that has offered me a little pearl of wisdom, and every fellow classmate that has offered up a smile and a congratulations. I feel very lucky to have met all of you, and very fortunate to have had your support. All in all I’m just very thankful for CFSBKThanksBenP.S. PR’d BSQ by 25lbs @ 235 Sweet!

Back squat:252 failed on 2nd rep in 2nd set. Leaned forward and crashed into rack. Apparently got on my toes and it all happened really fast.
Reset at 225x5x2Jeremy said it would the heaviest 225 ever and he was right.
I spent too much talking to get to the press. Squeezed in 8, 6 chins and that was that.
Really thought I’d have 252x5x3 , but guess not.

rob, that sounds a little bit scary!
