Cloyde M shows us that being strong aint easy
"I’ve written before that I think CrossFitting with consis-
tency and intensity both requires and evokes emotional
commitment. For many, it is too challenging and trans-
formative to engage in casually. It makes us vulnerable
and forces us far beyond our zones of comfort. It makes
us reckon with decisions we make about eating and
sleeping. It makes us consider all our excuses for not being
as fit as we’d like. It gets our competitive juices flowing and
encourages us to set higher goals for what our bodies can
do."

Just yesterday, I spoke with Margie, and told her I had a female coworker who was considering stopping by for a teaser class. Her big concern with Crossfit in general was she didn’t want to lift heavy weights becasue she didn’t want to get “too big.” I tried to tell her that was total BS, she wasn’t convinced. Then I see today’s links. Nice work.

@Joe: You’re next!
And I’m coming to get you all!
Joe says
Oops, looks like I forgot to enter the code thing for my comment about needing a whole lot more milk to be as strong as Samir.
This week off is killing me.

I am taking a few days off and then I think I’ll jump into GP. Looking forward to some of the other stuff…gymnastic work, etc. Not looking forward to metcon. I hate metcon. HATE IT! But, I have to do what I suck at. I guess the trick is to scale into it a little.

Right?!
Watching the video from the USAW/CF weightlifting meet, I recognized Veronica Garza, whose success story video (lupus sufferer –> CF badass) has provided me with a lot of inspiration these last few months.

I’m back from a wonderful trip to Maine with Sam and 5 other people. I had a great time that included getting on a canoe with Sam in awful weather, getting stuck in the middle of the lake and then having to paddle with the current to the far side of the lake where we were able to call our friends to pick us up. Luckily the next day was much calmer and we were able to paddle back to the cabin easily. There was also an attempt to climb Shawnee Peak which was really beautiful and again, more intense than we expected. We only made it about .7 miles up (1+ hour) when we realized there was another 1.7 miles to go and it would be dark before we hit the summit. We did a lot of hiking and outdoorsy type stuff which all felt great. I’m so used to being around fit people that I forget how difficult this basic stuff can be for the untrained population. My friends were huffing and puffing on the hike (2 had to turn back about 15 minutes in) and no one else thought they were strong enough to get on the lake or do some basic rock climbing. It was a great feeling to approach all of this stuff with a sense of confidence and play as opposed to fear. I also stayed Paleo the entire trip with the exception of 3-4 beers. I felt full of energy and vibrant throughout the trip. 3 Cheers for fitness!!
I’m back at the gym and REALLY excited to return to coaching, training, working with our amazing staff and wonderful community!

i liked this. it was hard for me to approach the c&j after the run, but i’m glad shane convinced me to go RXd and use 95. it was heavy but doable. i was able to get anywhere from 2-5 pull ups strung together, but still need to work on getting more consistent.
