have fun at the cert guys!

Have fun at the 5K, everyone!! Will look forward to seeing everyone’s times and experience with it.

25.58 for the 5K
Very interesting experience running that distance again after six years. The right knee felt a bit banged up but otherwise did fine.
Great fun meeting everyone at the park. We should do this more often.
Big thanks to Chris for bag-watching and timekeeping.
Sameer Parekh says
that run sucked.
my 5k time: 25:39
full course: 26:46
it appears that the course McG gave us was a little longer than a 5k according to my gps.
So much for 21:00 eh. That hill at the end was a mental battle, said Dan, I think. It was a battle I clearly lost. Samir and Carlos both passed me on that last hill, and I let the hill conquer me. =(

Tomorrow: 10AM, St Mary’s Park, WOD per Ryan

5K 30:14. No problem with that since previous PR was 32:00. Great day for a run. We should do this more often. Looking forward to getting faster.
David McG says
35:something
sort of ran, walked most of it. leg was iffy from the get go. felt pretty good only going uphill.thanks alec for the company.
we had a great crowd out today.
nick with his bare feet was hard core!
if david approves and people are interested i’d like to propose another 5k in a month if not sooner, earlier start time though, there was quite a bit of traffic in the park. any one interested?
Sameer Parekh says
I really want to do more regular CFE-type running work, not just a monthly 5k. but a monthly 5k would still be good. will bring me back to the days of trying to get into OCS. gotta get that time down below 21, dammit.
Deb says
I am definitely interested in another 5K.
Chris Fox says
Nice 5K everyone!
I was at first impressed just at Nick’s time, (coming in 1st at about 21 min I think), then as he sat down I noticed his bare feet…bad ass!
Props to Mrs. Fox on a new PR for her 5K, as well as a few others.
I’d love to join in on the next one.
Sameer – there’s a few 5K markings on the loop already. Maybe next time we’ll coordinate to use one of them.
David says
My last post didn’t go through…
St. Mary’s Playground is closed due to “falling debris”. Does anyone know somewhere else that we can organize an outdoor WOD?
Great work on the run, everyone. We can totally organize a little more outdoor running.
Bjorn says
Sorry to miss the run today, had an appointment with my friends at immigration to get fingerprinted. Would love to do the next one.
ShawnS says
I heard of Nick’s Legend from Travis when I went to Milk Thistle. They brought extra today and you guys bought him out. He gave me a bottle out of his driving stash.
Wish I couldve done the 5k.sitting out tomorrow. This ended up being another back off week.
Im ready to roll Monday.
I agree with more outdoor running even maybe independent of classes. Gotta get these in before the weather changes.
Id like to run more varied sprints. I love/hate sprints but am more motivated with others.
those 600m sprints uphill that day kinda sucked.
maybe a mash up of 60m 100m 150m 200m. Suicides, Tabatas, mix in some backwards running. Nice short and intense.
Jenna says
I had a blast doing the 5K as well– my first real run in the vibrams, so I took it deliberately chill to just make sure my feet felt good. 31:27 and it wasn’t until the very end that I could feel my arches getting a little taxed, so I am pleased.
Sameer, that hill (I call her Nellie due to Nellie’s lawn on the right) is all about pacing– it took me many a lap of that park and many a hill run before I could pace her well to have that at the end of the run. If you look at the elevation profile of that one hill you are gaining about 100ft in .4 miles– which works out to a 5% grade. At least when it comes to cycling you expect a 6% grade to absorb about 80% power output, so I would imagine its roughly the same for running– maybe a little less because you don’t have to contend with rolling resistance… but yeah, that hill is a bear, so don’t get too down on it kicking your ass.
Chris says

Beautiful day for a run. Thanks to McG for getting it together and Chris for keeping time.
Next time we should do it earlier, less crowded and cooler. I’ll be there either way…

David: if we’re not looking for any equipment we could just meet in Prospect Park again?

The Hills are Aliiiive!Running up that hill (cue Kate Bush) was one of the raddest/cruelest things I’ve done (second only in cruelty to conjuring Kate Bush when talking about a workout). Definitely gonna add that to all my jogs from now on. Hills, that is. Not Kate Bush.
28:21. I’ve sprinted laps for time and jogged for distance, but I’ve never ran that distance, that hill, that chronometer, before. The Pressure to make a good time butting up against the Support of having a team fixed my pre-existing racing anxiety problem, I think. Permanently, I hope.
I would love to do this again, and regularly (per the comments left by everyone else).
BTW David O., the Ikea promenade and Red Hook ball fields might be an option for outdoor WODs? Of course PPark is legit too.
Vincent Dugan says
The park by my house on 84th and Colonial Rd in Brooklyn has multiple pull-up bars at different heights with different diameter bars. Also has parallel bars, a quarter mile track and a turf football field with well drawn out yard lines. Various other stuff too. If interested, I can be reached at vincentdugan@mac.com. I will probably do a tabata workout. Thinking at 10:00am(ish). Anyone interested???
Scott says
I wish I made the 10:00 a.m. run. I ran the loop (3.35 miles) at 8:00 p.m. in 22:35. I hope to make the next organized run.
Laurel says
Cert workouts:bottom to bottom tabata squats – i.e. 10 second rest is in the bottom of the squat. Scored as lowest score: 7. (felt a bit embarrassed at this showing – resting at the bottom was surprisingly painful.) I feel like I ought to have managed a bit better… oh well!
Fran: 9:52 as Rx’d for the ladies. (65lb thrusters) First time doing Fran – felt pretty miserable. I was glad to finish inside the 10 minute cut off.
Cert is lovely… but that’s all now because I need to sleep!
Malcolm says
Woo hoo. Day 1 of the cert was super fun. Bottom to bottom tabata squats were hard/awesome. Lowest round was 14.
Fran: Did this with two 30 lb dumb bells because all the bars were occupied cause I wasn’t quick enough to jump in. Did it in 7:29. Really curious how the dumbbell versus barbell swap works. Want to try it Rx’d.
David Mak says
Couldn’t make the run this morning as Josh and I are building a patio deck in the back yard. Functional workouts indeed! Our WOD consisted of crushed rock bag carry (Approx 50lbs per), concrete deck support carry (also approx 50lbs per), digging and lots o’ raking. It was kind of great setting the back and doing proper squats while carrying all this stuff.
ShawnS – Thanks for remembering! I just got in anyway so I wasn’t really set to watch tonight. Next time, though.
Good luck everyone on the cert!
Jess says
Hey all,
I’ve run the loop in prospect park many a time but today still felt hard. I did PR at 27:02 for our unofficial 5k. I would definitely love to continue doing this run! Maybe next time we should use one of the marked courses to get a more accurate distance? For example, the Prospect Park Track Club has a route set beginning just past the Audobon Center and ending just before the Audobon. I can definitely give more details if we’re interested in this! Either way, it’s a fun run regardless. Nice to run with Samir for the first half of the run! Good job to all!
Laurel and Malcolm, it sounds like you’re working hard at the cert! Being so new to Crossfit means I don’t even know what FRAN consists of…maybe one of our near future WOD’s???
Ryan says
I was gone all day yesterday and only saw now that the park is closed. I’m gonna try going to the red hook playground at 10 which is near-by (a little south of 9th st). There are pull up bars right off clinton st. i don’t know the cross street but they’re one block north of the pool. I’ve never worked out there before but my plan is to give it a shot.
Sameer Parekh says
ryan– i’m running late, but will be there soon.
