Elaine, David and Adrian watch Deb put on a pull-up clinic
The C.R.A.S.H.-B. Indoor Rowing Championships are coming up this February in Boston and CrossFit South Brooklyn wants to send a team! Nick Peterson (2000 Olympic team) has volunteered to be our rowing coach for the event and will be prepping all interested athletes with workshops and regularly posted endurance WODs leading up to the competition. All interested participants should review the material on the website and send an email to David(at)CrossFitSouthBrooklyn.com. Within the next two weeks we will have a kick off seminar reviewing the event, programming and our first technique session.
If you've got any questions about the event please post a comment to the blog and Nick or myself will get back to you asap.
Hmmm id be interested. Does it make any sense for me to try it if I’ve never even rowed a 2000 piece? I definitely fall well into the LW category.

Thanks Anne. I’ll have to get some bourbon for my desk!
Hahahahahahaha. Anne, that was awesome.
I would be interested in doing the Erg COmp.
Is there a heavyweight division?
Can I try out for a spot on the light-weight team?
As it stands, we’re allowing everyone to be on the team since there are no qualifiers to participate in the event and it is an individual competition. As long as you can afford the trip, you’re good to go.
Dan and Gabrus, please email me so i can put you on the mailing list. We’ve already got about 5 other people who want in.
the blog looks nekked without a picture…
There we go.
Hey Everybody! I know I’m a day (or two) late and a dollar short, but I did “Fight Gone Bad” today.
Wallball 18lb. 28/12/15 = 55Sumo HDL 65lbs. 15/12/10 = 37Box Jump 20″ 16/12/10 = 38Pushpress 65lbs. 8/6/5 = 1960yd “sprints” 4/2/3.5 = 9.5–I gave myself 2 points each for these. No rowing machine here yet.Total points: 168
Coughed loogies until I yakked. yay.
So there I was this morning, sleepy and looking forward to weighted pull-ups. But nooooo. Four other people wanted to do FGB, and Charlotte gave me an expectant look, like, “You WANNA do FGB, don’t you?” Somehow it got into my head that I did want to do it.
I forget my station totals, but the grand total was 314. My biggest challenges were the wall-balls and the push press. And I felt like, in order to get in the reps on the box jump, I was holding my breath. Which didn’t feel very good.
But I love me some SDLHPs…
I’m really excited about CRASH-Bs. It’ll be fun to work with all the suckers – er, dedicated indoor rowing athletes – who want to compete in Boston in February. And it’ll be great to collaborate with the coaches on this. Can’t wait to get started. Please post questions, any questions (yes, Gabris, there’s a HW division; or rather, a non-LW division).
Nick — that’s an awesome score, congrats!
Looking forward to training for the CRASH-B’s too.
OK, sleepy time.
Shawn– you will.
hmm, at ~170 currently I could easily make lightweight, what is the best strategy regarding this?
I’m very much looking forward to the CRASH-Bs. I love erging/rowing and the competition is at BU’s new athletic facility that opened after I graduated, so it will be nice to go back.
I’m looking forward to being back in the gym after my race (NYC Tri) this Sunday. I’m very much over tri training and excited to get my ass kicked, I mean, get back in the gym.
I miss allllllll of you!
A special shout out (or ‘screw you’ depending on your fondness for rowing 2k pieces) to Ian Jacobs for pitching the idea of doing the Crash-Bs with the help of little Nick Peterson to me a few weeks ago. I mentioned it to Nick and actually saw the sadistic twinkle in his eyes. I fear we’ve awoken a monster.
Regrettably, I’m in.
damn all you guys! for trying to cut and make lightweight (Paul and Dan). Give a true 150lb lightweight a chance to shine, will you.
ShawnS:
Wow, 150lbs? You’re not even a lightweight!
Wikipedia entry:At international level for crew boats the limits are:* Men: Crew average 70 kg (154 lb) – no rower over 72.5 kg (160 lb)* Women: Crew average 57 kg (126 lb) – no one over 59 kg (130 lb)
Drink milk!
:(Dan,youre right. Maybe ill should just cut to 130 and go for the coxswain division!
btw I drink plenty of milk. I’d bet I could out eat most people at CSFBK–lightweight to heavyweight!
Shawn you should be careful what you bet. I have seen Dan eat. It is awesome, in the old definition. I.e. inspiring awe.
Count me in for the trip. Rowing is one of my stronger domains.
