GO TEAM!!
The hill workout sounds the nastiest to me – simply because I really don’t like to run uphill.
Oddly, the individual competition run – at least the part that involves scrambling up a brush-covered hill on all fours – sounds like terrific fun… although I’d prefer it without the poison oak.
Adam L says
That deadlift workout scares me; that movement fatigues very quickly.
The other workouts look interesting and fun, in isolation. I wonder what the strategy will be for the sandbags, over the shoulder or farmer’s carry.
A swim would have been interesting, but its very skill based.
Adam L says
Oh yeah, good luck to everyone competing!
ShawnS says
Haha seriously?I doubt I’d be good at any of these events.
I mean 7.1k run–I know how to run, but my time wouldnt be good–at least I know I can do it.
I can deadlift, I enjoy it–but 315 is still higher than my pr right now.
Sandbag Hill Sprint–Something i’d enjoy trying but would struggle with since thats half my body weight (big ups to Speel if he rocks this), up a hill, over the length of 2 football fields.
The Hammer/Row– I think thatd be fun and i could do it. Maybe I could figure out an efficient way to get the stake into the ground.
Wallball Barbell snatch–eh.
btw: any of you guys interested in watching UFC 100 on Saturday? I MIGHT be ordering it at my place Saturday and could host a few people. If so let me know so I can get an idea if its doable.
Laurel says
Oh, I was just thinking about the team workouts in terms of what would destroy me.
Honestly, I’d kind of like to try all of the workouts… although maybe not all in one day.
I suspect the last workout of the day would be the worst, so given the ordering I’m afraid of the couplet.
Malcolm says
I think strangely my strengths would lie in the row/hammer.
Lots of my childhood spent splitting firewood with a wedge and a sledge and I think I have pretty good hammer accuracy. Don’t know how dramatically it would be changed by aiming at the ground. But then again I suck at rowing so maybe not.
I think I am most afraid of the heavy hill run post deadlifting. But the couplet will probably come out as the most terrifying once we know more.
tamar says
Good luck, everyone out in Cali!
Shane and crew back here, see you in class on Sunday, after the beginning of my competitive bridal circuit training, which starts up again this Saturday. (Hope I’m not too out of shape for that. Those girls can be NASTAY.)

I wouldn’t mind trying the affiliate Stadium wod…
30 Wallballs (20lbs/14lbs)Row 300m30 Box jumps (24″)30 KB swings (24kg/16kg)30 DB Push press / Push jerk (40lbs/25lb)30 Deadlifts (225lbs/135lbs)
That would be intense.
tamar says
I would try that Stadium wod too — it almost seems like a modified or half Storm, no?
Bjorn says
Looking at the Affiliate Wods, I think I might do all right in the Stadium WOD, not so much in the OHS/Pullups.
Of the individual ones the couplet seems the most worrisome to me as well.
Go Team CFSBK!
Ian J says
First two events are great. Grueling and nasty.
The middle two are stupid. Why row-hammer-row? The rowing distances aren’t long enough to really fatigue, and does hammering in one post really qualify as a world-class test of accuracy, strength, etc?
I mean, much ado has been made about the games being world-class tests of fitness. Is a sub-200m run carrying 70 pounds going to test that? Firemen carry 100 pounds of equipment up and down flights of stairs everyday. I understand that not every event can be killer or the athletes bodies would be damaged, so why not just do a straight ahead test of speed? Let’s see just how fast/explosive Crossfitters really are in a 100 or 200m sprint.
Why not have them have to hammer in ten pylons, perhaps of increasing difficulty a la the deadlift event? Or, since flexibility is one of the 10 modes of fitness we’re supposed to train, why not have some sort of flexibility test like a sit and reach?
I was super jazzed about the Games, especially after hearing about first two WODs. I feel like the second two are real let downs (I’m reserving judgement on the last one until the full details are released, but it’s not looking good).
If the Crossfit Games wants to take the next step and be considered a serious activity, where the winner can take the title of “Fittest Person on the Planet,” then there needs to be a battery of tests that make everyone who watches go, “Wow.” Like the “World’s Strongest Man” competition where they pull airplanes around and lift Atlas Stones and stuff. Will the row-hammer-row do that? I’m not saying it’s not “difficult” (although maybe it’s not), but does completing it constitute “World-Class fitness”?

after seeing castro go through HALF the deadlift wod, i would be scared shitless knowing that’s what was coming after the 7.1km run.
the sandbag sprint and row/hammer stake look like fun, but it all depends on how much time one has to recover after the previous wod’s. would love to try em all.
swam half mile at the red hook pool this morning. glorious. highly recommended.

i’m sitting here trying to refresh the SBK page, the twitter page, the crossfit games page, the twitpic page and facebook all at the same time to see whats going on.
man i wish i was there.
GO TEAM!
Asta says
I’m skeptical about the row-hammer-row. Like most things in crossfit, the “easy sounding” ones are always the ass kickers. The run sounds fun just because it’s more of a run/crawl/roll downhill/try not to break or sprain anything adventure! Yay adventure!
David says
It’s crazy here, guys. Were in the sbk tent awaiting our run . Fun to see sooo many crossfitters in one place. Everyone is having a blast!
Laurel says
Rob – THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE! We’re going crazy here waiting for some news. How is everyone? How’d the first one go – how long did they take?

The team is chillin in the official CFSBK tent.Thefirst 2 work outs were tough. The team came from behind on the second workout (the stadium) and just missed finishing in the allotted time. Next up is the hill relay run.Our athletes are doing great and “representin BK to the fullest!”

Update from the road:
We rocked the run!Run order: Juliana, Dan, Charmel, Anne.
Anne is by far our strongest runner, and she did amazing with the double lap at the end. For those who don’t know, the team has to run as a group after the last runner finishes their solo run.
Needless to say, it was grueling. The hill is a terrible device that tests you mentally and makes you question taking the next step forward. If that wasn’t bad enough, it’s a struggle to breath as all the dust builds up to choke you.
I don’t recall all of the times, but Charmela took The fastest lap time for SBK at 2:05 (Rob may have the official times).
Congrats to all my teammates, y’all did fantastic!
Jenna says
Way to go, you guys! Wish I could have seen it live but it sounds like you all killed it. Go SBK!
