tea w/ milk & honey
i need to try this fried egg thing, so I am not messing with the yolk. or something.
Laurel says
From reading these posts, I feel entitled to buy myself more berries! Thanks everyone.
My lunch salad was much more exciting than breakfast today, so I thought I’d post it too. Today the salad consisted of four slices roast beef (we roasted it on Sunday @ 200 degrees until the internal temp was around 145, so it is a rich rosy pink from the center to the edge,) chopped on top of mesclun greens, half an avocado, a large handful of pinenuts, more cabot cheddar, a scatter of dried currents and some olive oil, salt and pepper. yum! Current favorite lunch.
I followed this up with strawberries and a dab of whipped cream (unfortunately sweetened – I didn’t make it.)
Now I need more coffee, but am otherwise replete.
I’m curious, what did you all eat for lunch?
David Makowski says
I am envious of more than a few of your meals! No breakfast today because of excessive snooze button pounding. Usual breakfast is either a nutty bread toasted with natural peanut butter and home made jam or three eggs with fresh roasted turkey, swiss, jalapeno and hot sauce in a wrap.
For lunch today I had a chicken shwarma from this awesome Lebanese place on 4th and 86th. I don’t always eat like this – I’m trying to incorporate more vegetables into my diet and have been really trying to pay attention to the subtle and not so subtle reactions my body has to the food I eat. I think that’s the best diet – listen to what your body tells you (not necessarily your taste buds). The trick is learning the language.
Charlotte says
Laurel, what’s your pine nut budget? 😉
2nd breakfast: organic lowfat cottage cheese with mango, blueberries, almonds, pomegranate seeds (all fruit is frozen & organic)
lunch: grilled chicken over mesclun with cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, tiny bit of feta, balsamic, mustard, olive oil.
Malcolm says
I had the same lunch as Laurel except no strawberries and whip cream.
Charlotte her pine nut budget is HUGE. Terrifyingly so. Most of the world eats for less a day than she eats in pine nuts. She should feel very guilty (mine had the same large handful of pine nuts).

Lunch: 1/2 lb turkey, caesar salad, had a few croutons in it,so kill me but it tasted great, 1 banana , some almonds,1 tangerine. That’s the good news. The bad news is that I have a nasty pizza jones that’s crying out to be fed, tonight.
Shawn says
I had about a half Peruvian roasted chicken with the side lettuce and tomato. I brought berries and assorted nuts but the coworkers put in a big order and I couldnt pass on the festivities.
With that said, I was able to avoid all the rice and beans, but I did have a couple of Plantains.
now I still have berries and nuts for a second lunch.
BTW does anyone else have the issue I do? (seems liek Laurel does).
I dont do a good job of eating a handful of nuts. Im a snack/nut nut. When Im at home I can run through almost a whole bag of Cashews, Almonds, Walnuts or Brazil Nuts. It used to be that way with tortilla chips.
I read I should get full but when it comes to that stuff–I just dont. 🙁
David says
No lunch yet, I’m thinking of classing things up a notch and going to Buttermilk Channel down the street and getting some Duck.
Shawn,I go through phases of very easily eating too many nuts or nut butters (even more dangerous!) as casual snacking but lately I haven’t had a taste for either really. The best, best best are Stahlbush Island Farms frozen blueberries. They’re SO good they make the Wyman Frozen blueberries taste like straight up dingleberries.
Laurel says
Stahlbush Island farms are 20 minutes from where I grew up! Yum.
Just to be clear, I get Chinese pine nuts, not Spanish pine nuts, so they aren’t soooo expensive (so they are $11.50 a lb, as opposed to $21.50 a lb… at Sahadi’s – fantastic bulk nut place.)
Can a person eat too many nuts? I find if I don’t eat tons of nuts I lose weight and feel hungry all the time.
Bjorn says
Breakfast 3 eggs over easy, bacon, some milk and a couple of strawberries.
Where do I get those Stahlbush blueberries?
Workout at the Y today, didn’t want to do unsupervised snatches, especially since my overhead squat didn’t feel so hot the other day, so I stuck to that.
Ohs 5×3: 45-65-85-95×2-95prDb presses 5×5: 30-35-40-45-50x1Some pullups & dips on the assisted thingie.
Then found that my locker had been broken into and my wallet & cash stolen. The Y has not been my friend lately.

Bjorn, that sucks!!!
Bethany says
I definitely have a tendency to binge on nuts and nut and coconut butters. Pretty much the only time I don’t binge is when I’m logging my food! :/ But really, other than consuming too many calories, what is the real danger? My last cholesterol reading came back great.
Bethany says
Lunch: 3oz flank steak, ~1.5 cup steamed broccoli, a few chunks of canteloupe and strawberry, ~10 pecans followed by double espresso. Really trying hard to avoid coffee but this grey weather is making it hard – all week I’ve woken up, showered, eaten breakfast, felt fine & blood sugars tested fine, then suddenly was hit with this crazy strong primal urge to crawl back into my cave and sleep.
