Notes
Today is the final Saturday of our 8-week cycle, and we’re closing it out with purpose. “Hotshots 19” is a tribute workout honoring the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots firefighting team who tragically lost their lives while fighting a fire in Yarnell, Arizona.
Approach this piece with respect, grit, and intention. This is a long workout, so settle into a steady rhythm.
Air Squat: Move with quality and keep the integrity of the range of motion!
Power Cleans: Stay disciplined with controlled singles or small sets.
Strict pull-ups: Break early if you need to, to keep form sharp.
Run: Use it to breathe, reset, and stay mentally locked in, preparing to come back in and work with focus, toughness, and consistency, round after round.
You’ve built strength and capacity these past 8 weeks and the whole year! Today is where it shows.
This Hero WOD is long and high volume. Reduce the reps and load to keep this workout under 40 minutes.
Run: Suggest keeping the full volume run today OR complete 200m run + 400m bike per round

“Hotshots 19”
On June 30, 2013, 19 members of a Hotshot team died fighting a fire that grew to more than 2,000 acres about 34 miles south of Prescott in Yarnell, an old gold-mining village with a population of roughly 650.
To commemorate the fallen and raise money for their surviving family members, CrossFit Inc. held a memorial workout at Captain CrossFit in Prescott: six rounds for time of 30 squats, 19 135-lb. power cleans, 7 strict pull-ups and a 400-meter run that took athletes past the makeshift memorial that is the chain-link fence surrounding Prescott Fire Department Station 7. The workout was created with a rep scheme and movements specifically honoring the 19 Hotshots, who were required to perform seven strict pull-ups and to run, said Tony Budding, CrossFit’s Director of Games Media.
