6:00am Kart class with Jeff Gordon
6 x 1 accelerated starts at the green light. These were fast and fun. I got a speed boost 4 out of the 6 times.
10 Drift drills around 100m turns. Drifting still is a work in progress. I ended up jumping too much and only drifting about 20m each turn.
20 Special Cubes. Mostly got bananas, but I’m 100% sure this is luck based and has nothing to do with skill.
Metcon was a sprint around rainbow road. This wasn’t my fastest sprint, but Wario was throwing bombs all over the track and I was mostly focused on dodging the bombs instead of thinking about my speed.

Hats off to you, Mr. Toad. Sounds like you are ready for tonight.

I’m SO ANNOYED that I have to work late shift tonight! I would so have been in for this otherwise!
Then again, I’ve never actually played the 64 version. I’m all about the Wii since they introduced the dirt bikes. #KingBooForever
Lauren M. says
I have never seen 6 AM get so riled up by a question of the day.
My instinct was that a hotdog is not a sandwich. Though while working through that snatch complex, I started to think about the Earl of Sandwich, and whether or not a hotdog would have satisfied his needs at the time when he “invented” the sandwich. Clearly, it would have. But then, that logic would allow that anytime a food was covered in enough of a bread-like material to allow someone to hold it in their hands (stuffed pita, taco, etc.), Earl Sandwich would be allowed to claim it as his own. And that seems sketchy. Speaking of tacos! They are quite similar in shape to the hotdog and, I think we can all agree, DEFINITELY NOT a sandwich. Therefore, I am back on team hotdog-is-not-a-sandwich.
If anyone is interested in learning about how the burrito “became” a sandwich, thanks to sales tax laws, I give you the Planet Money team: https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2014/07/18/332612643/episode-554-how-the-burrito-became-a-sandwich (Note: “We all know what a sandwich is. It’s something delicious, slapped between *two slices* of bread.”—Emphasis, my own.)
ALSO, belated congratulations to Sofia, Lauro, Marcus, Liz, Runit, and everyone who participated in the Challenge!!!!! Go eat all the sandwiches!!! (Or, tacos.)

Is a hamburger a sandwich?
Lauren M. says
Yes, I think the two separate pieces of bread makes it so.
Steve says
Yes a hamburger is a sandwich
kate tk says
Wait wait wait who has been saying a hotdog is a sandwich?
7am OG solo stuff
Warm up:
400m run
2x
100′ ea SA farmers carry @32kg
:45 ea side plank
10 ea crossover symmetry external rotation
15 crossover symmetry row
Stretch/mash/stretch
FSQ @ 31×1
83×5,103×5,113×5 – trying to keep from leading w/hips but front rack/back felt solid!
Clean complex!!!!! (Asked Melo if I can please please please do some cleans)
EOMOM x 16 (8 sets)
Clean pull + power clean + hang clean
63-83-83-93-93-93-83-83
These were OK but I know I can’t go heavier yet. Sigh. A little pain on the last set at 93# (which is less than 70% :(). I registered for the June Crow Hill Olympic meet back in the beginning of the year, but that’s looking more and more impossible.
Echo bike EMOM 14min (7 sets)
1min @ 85%
1min rest/walk
85% for first 4 sets, more like 90% for the last 3. That thing will really get you.

Let’s take it to a vote, this is a democracy after all.
http://www.complex.com/life/2016/04/hot-dog-sandwich-poll
Highlights
-When Americans were asked it they thought a hot dog was a sandwich 60 percent said “No.” PPP further broke down the demographics of the Americans polled by age, race, and political beliefs. Here’s some of the things one learns from the polls:
-Democrats and republicans both pretty much agree the hot dog is not a sandwich voting 57 percent and 60 percent respectively.
-When it comes to race hispanics most resoundingly don’t think a hot dog is a sandwich with 79 percent voting “No.”
-80 percent of voters ages 18-29 don’t think it’s a sandwich.
-62 percent of people who voted for Barack Obama in 2012 think a hot dog isn’t a sandwich.
Corey Brown says
A hotdog is not a sandwich. A hotdog is a slender tube of meat. You may place that hotdog in bread, or a bun, and create a sandwich, but the hotdog itself is not a sandwich.
Charles Smith says
this is correct

The Hot Dog Question was apparently so divisive in the morning classes that Brett decided against using it for Short Circuit.
…which was a fun way to start today, since I have a late shift at work. Them DB overhead holds tho! So hard!
Alas, the sad thing about going to 9 AM Short Circuit is that the best part of my day is already over.
Steve says
Never before have I contemplated whether a hot dog is a sandwich and I was the last to answer so got plenty of time to hear the arguments. I stand as yes, it is a sandwich when it is nuzzled in a roll. I draw my arbitrary sandwich line at risen bread, so taco does not count.
6am with Snickers doing Saturdays metcon
26:40 with 3 bmu per round but otherwise Rx. First bmu in a workout since the 2016 open! Moved pretty slow to safe myself for bmu and also due to consuming a tomahawk ribeye last night

So much deep thinking today! Notes: Never ask Corey for a hot dog. He will only give you the meat. Jynne says it’s not even food. And someone in 8 am finally stood up for hot dog self-identification. FYI – Detroit has the best hot dogs.
I haven’t found time to post much this week. Today’s work – 7am with Lauren doing Thursday. The snatch work was OK in that my high pull felt good – energy transfer from feet/legs, bar up high and elbows up…but then still too impatient when it comes to transferring that to the snatch. At least I can tell more often when it happens. The running/burpee WOD had me beat today. I just ran to 4th ave and back on the 2nd and 3rd rounds (from 608 so a little further than 597). 13:11 Stark contrast to Sunday’s 3 round WOD with 400 meter runs, and DB clean and jerks, etc. That was one of my better running wods.
Monday’s work with the RDLs was interesting because I found that I have a hard time keeping my ribs down at the same time as keeping lats down. It took sooooo much concentration and thinking about pushing my belly button toward my spine as I descended. Wednesday’s squats felt like I got really good depth as I worked up to 100×10.
Also got a couple AG classes in this week! The rings hate me. Sunday one hit me in the teeth and Tuesday one pinched my arm. Other than that – great fun and benchmarking some progress toward more skills.
Stella says
Not very nice of those rings! 😛
Gaby V. says
I am so sad that I missed today’s QOD, as I am that very annoying person who challenges people in bars over this question. A hot dog 100% fits the definition of what we already loosely define as a sandwich – so yes, it is a sandwich.
Lauren M. says
I tried to post this earlier but apparently had some issues…the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council rules hotdogs are *not* sandwich: http://www.hot-dog.org/press/national-hot-dog-and-sausage-council-announces-official-policy-hot-dog-sandwich-controversy
Lauren M. says
Ugh *sandwiches
Meme Fairy says
Kayleigh says
So pita? Sandwich or nah?
Steve says
It’s leavened so yes
Lauren M. says
If it is one continuous piece (or in this case, pocket) of leavened bread, no. It is a pita sandwich if the innards are between two separate slices of pita.
Steve says
Is a sub not a sandwich then?
Lauren M. says
Hm! Maybe it’s its own sub-set of sandwich 🙂
