CFSBK Loses One of its Own: Erik Kolb
We are devastated to announce the death of one of our members, Erik Kolb, age 34. He and five other climbers tragically died on an expedition to Mount Rainier at the end of May. Erik had been a regular at CFSBK since mid-2012 and many of you will remember sharing a rack or bar with him, especially during the morning and weekend classes. Along with being a CrossFitter, Erik was a finance manager for American Express, an avid hiker, world traveler, and Park Slope resident. In his family’s statement, they wrote, “Erik was a smart, gentle and generous man whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. We will miss him sorely every day, and he’ll always be in our hearts.”
He is survived by his wife Lisa and a number of family members. Please keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Erik was a heck of a nice guy and was a pleasure to know and work with. Many people die never having done the things they really wanted to do in life, Erik died doing something he loved. I hope his family and loved ones can find a measure of solace in that knowledge.

10am Class
Fun to move around and play with rings and paralette HSPUs. As usual, single leg work is enlightening.

I was so sorry to read this tragic news. My condolences to Erik's family and friends.
I haven't posted much about the Oly class. It feels more like the kind of thing you take in as a whole versus measuring daily numbers and gains. Speaking for myself, obviously, I'm still hovering around the same numbers. With the snatch it's in my mind, with the clean it's a matter of strength. But for each, it's about technique, and that's what we hammer in every class. And that's where I feel I have improved.
Frank and Heather (so glad she made it today!) have given me some very effective new ways of thinking about and sensing these lifts. I'm also learning from the others in the class, especially my fantastic bar-partner.
With two weeks left, I'm looking forward to testing these lifts to see if I can channel this refined technique into some mind-blowing numbers. Honestly, I really don't know what to expect. But, I can say this has been a valuable experience and something I would do again.
In the meantime, I better get after those strength gains. Front Squat a la Heather, Week 1 after class: 123x2x5
