CFSBK at the North East Regionals
The CrossFit Games Regionals dates and venues were just announced and the NE Regionals at Reebok Headquarters in Canton, MA will be May 30-June 1. Even though spectator tickets do not go on sale until April, because hotels rooms in the area are booked solid well before, we’ve gone ahead and reserved a room block (at a special $139/night rate) for CFSBKers who want to watch the action. These rooms are held for us only until February 7, so even if you are not sure if you can go but are the slightest bit interested in this 2-night field trip, we suggest you go ahead and CLICK HERE to reserve a room by this February 7 deadline. Each reservation made through this link does not require a deposit and there is no penalty to cancel as long as it is cancelled by 2p at least one day prior to check-in on May 30. Cruise Director Mare L. will then coordinate with anybody who has expressed interest in going for room shares and transportation to/from Canton AND, most importantly, make sure we have a SBK home in Tent City and our coolers are filled! 6am with NickDowell. I haven't done the push press since maybe August when I was still a newb, so had no idea where the heavy triple would take me. Ended up at 93#. I'm pumped that we'll be seeing this on Mondays. Played around with kipping for the first time, but didn't have the rhythm. I also tried t2b, using the same idea of closing the angle with my shoulders, and totally surprised myself by getting my toes to touch!!
Peter says
6am. Worked up to 185×3 on the push press. Weight moved well, though I didn't feel very smooth today. Finished with a mixture of kipping pull-up practice (butterfly kip) and muscle-up practice.
Dude in the video can squat a (half) ton, but he walks sort of funny.
Joel W. says
Peter, I think he was belted so tight his stomach felt like what yours might when you missed the exit for the rest area and had to go 20 miles until the next one.
Dan L says
Push Press – worked up to 175×3, just missed the last rep at 195. Should have made that, but rushed the last rep.
Then some MU, bar MU and butterfly pull-up practice. Butterfly is finally coming together for me after some cues from Arturo last week.

7am with NickDowell,
Worked up to 125#x3 on the Push Press, felt pretty heavy, but I feel with better technique it wont feel as heavy. Followed by kipping work, I think I may have gotten my first kipping, but probably not, judging from McDowell's facial expression.
Stella says
7 AM with NickDowell and six dudes. Did I crash the stag party?
Worked to 98×3 on PP. I can't remember at all what I did the last time we worked on PP, but that seemed plenty heavy.
Kipping pullup practice after. Now that Pigeon and I have graduated from Nick Peterson's Remedial School for Kids Who Can't Do Handstands, it's time for Remedial Kipping Pullup School.
Stella says
PS, dare I hope that kipping pullup work will be a regular part of the cycle as well? Or is it just for today? I keep promising myself I'm going to come to OG and do it and then I end up working too late 🙁

I ordered girl scout cookies from a very good sales girl at the gym a couple of weeks ago, and still need to pay. Is there a gym delivery set up? Can I pay then?

Hi, all – I'm going to be in Washington, D.C., for work next week. Can anyone recommend any Crossfit affiliates they've been to/enjoyed down there? Thanks in advance!

Peter im pretty sure he's walking funny due to his knee wraps. I can imagine those suckers are pretty tight with 1050 on his back.
@Michael C- I went to District Crossfit. Was a nice space. There are plenty of Box's in Dc though, so i think you'll a lot of options that will be close to where you're staying.

more impressive (to me anyway) is vashon perryman squatting 3.7 times body weight (606 lbs RAW @ 165 body weight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaXzggY3JXU i admit MAYBE questionable depth but they gave it to em). thats the equivalent of yngvars nordic ass squatting over 1330, just sayin! #skinnyliftersrunninshit

@Michael C I've worked out at CrossFit DC a few times (some good friends are regs there and love it). A bit small, but a very welcoming crowd.

New emojis I'm really excited about: weightlifter, eye, bed, rays, and lightning/mood bubbles sound promising.

@michaelc, I went to Balance Crossfit when I was down there for a conference and it was a pretty great experience. I think just pick the closest of the recommendations to where you're staying, they're EVERYWHERE down there.

12pm with Fox and Arturo.
Push press- 45 x 5, 65 x 4, 75 x 3, 85 x 3, 90 x 3.
This was hard and I felt like I was missing something. I kind of fell forward a bit on the last rep. Not sure if I will be able to work on these much this cycle because this rowing schedule is getting a bit scary.
CRASH-Bs
'Hell Too'
20 x 250M around race pace with 1 min rest.
Hmmmm…. I decided to get this workout over with first as it looked the scariest and it is a new one but it did not feel awful so maybe I did not push myself hard enough. My average pace was 1.58.3 23SPM. I kept expecting to hit a wall but it didn't happen. I guess I should try going faster next time, but it is kind of frightening to do so when you still have 19 more intervals to go.
3 RNFT
5 strict chin-ups
10 RDLs with 32kg KB
15 slow and steady overhead squats with green bar.
Lots of energy this last while.

6am with Nick and McDowell
Still feeling rough from Grace on Saturday.
Push press: worked up to 145×3 but got called out for doing push jerks (and not realizing it). Did 145×1 push press then, making sure my knees didn't bend a second time, but I had no time left after that. Planning try to get back to this number for three reps, with strict push pressing, another time.
A little work on muscle-ups and kipping pullups after that. Got some tips for my muscle-up kip from Peter and Michael that really helped. Strung together a couple muscleups but didn't feel good this morning and left it at that. I think I need some yoga…

I. Love. Backoffweek. I am SO SORE from Barbara, like, whoa. Worked up to 90×3 on the push press today, which felt heavy and not super organized. Definitely enough for today. I chose kipping pull up practice, even though I was so wrecked from yesterday, and both yesterday and today was really nailing them down. Today I was cycling them in sets of four pretty consistently, which I haven't been able to do since I got my first unassisted kipping pull up almost a year ago. So I am super stoked about this. Also, I LOVED watching Nancy get her first ever kipping pull up – her face coming off of the bar was priceless! Effing awesome, Nancy.

do you need a handyman?
thanks to a reco from Rob and Bina, i hired a handyman last week who fixed approximately a million things in my apartment in the course of an afternoon. it instantly improved my experience in my home by a factor of about ten, and the gentleman was efficient, resourceful, extremely detail-oriented, and pleasant to work with.
if you could use such a person, i'd be happy to recommend him. please email me for his contact details: mignyc at gmail dot com.

Quick time compressed DIY workout today, now that crush week is over it's time to start working in marathon training…
Warmed up with 3 sets of 5 pull ups, 20 hollow rocks, 15 air squats. Surprised and happy that the pull ups weren't too tough. 6 next time. Definitely kind of sore from Barbara. Then push press, which pressing is a big goat for me. Worked up to 105x5x2 which felt heavy enough.
Then ran 3 miles, on a treadmill at mixed inclines. First run since October, just to ease in a bit. At first I felt awful, and treadmills are insanely boring, but after 10 minutes it felt like an old friend. A really sweaty friend. Definitely wasn't going to PR my 5k but it went pretty well!

12pm group class:
Foam rolling hurt so good. Definitely exposed more sore bits than I thought I had from Barbara. Would have easily done this for an hour.
3RNFT
-this was a perfect recovery triplet. The lunges targeted some sore adductors and I forced myself to swing overhead just to work some sore lats.
Push Press:
(45×5, 75×5, 95×3)
115×3, 120×3, 125×3
-the soreness made it hard to find a good overhead position so these were more challenging than expected. Used my belt for the last set, struggled to lock out the last rep, but got it.
Cash Out:
-about 10 minutes of banded muscle-up transition work. my hands hurt so bad.

Thanks cage!!! I was super surprised!!!

Congrats everyone on their kipping pull-ups…in lieu of getting my own, I instead got to witness the awesomeness of Keith F. getting not only his first kipping pull-up (I think it was his first) but then immediately stringing like 1000 of them together. Congrats, Keith!!

I mentioned it yesterday and I spoke to a couple of people today about competing in the next Olympic Lifting meet on MARCH 16th in Garden City LI. You do not need to be good, or super strong to come out and compete. We're going to try and get a nice CFSBK crew to roll out. Its Men AND Women. DO it..DO IT.

6:30 with Ro and DO
That warmup was the hardest WOD I have done in months. Getting back to conditioning is going to be tougher than I thought…
Push Press
45×5 95×4 135×3 145×3 155×3 165×2,F
Last one at 165 had no pop off the shoulders but happy to have gotten that high with these.
Worked the KPU cashout and did 3×5 banded glute ham raises (once Arturo showed me how to do it) with the green band. Excited to work on those this cycle.
And yes, as someone who just competed in a weightlifting meet for fun, I encourage ANYONE with any curiosity at all to go for it. It's super mellow and fun, and I'm sure it would be even more fun if we can bring a big CFSBK team out.

I was feeling pretty sore from crush week and I'm starting to feel a bit under the weather. Looking forward to some good recovery during back off week.
The foam roll and warm up felt great and I came extra early and got some additional rolling in myself.
Worked up to 185 with the presses and they felt good. As the weight got heavier I got it up on my shoulders. When Ro explained to me that this movement is actually 80% legs and 20% arms it clicked and I started doing it much better.

Push press. Not so great. Bad game plan. I might not have warmed up enough since I'm noticing everyone worked in sets of 3 all the way up.
33×3, 65×3, 85×1, 95×1, 105×1, f and caught it on my back. Everyone's reaction freaked me out but it felt natural to catch there after practicing snatch balance all last cycle. 105×1,f onto my back again. I really don't know why I did it it again. Nerves were super high and I was frustrated and just wanted a set of three. 100×2,f and I don't think I let it go behind again?
I don't function well when I'm nervous. Don't think I'll be signing up for a weight lifting competition any time soon.
