30 Squats
19 Power Cleans 135/95
7 Strict Pull-ups
400 meter Run
Post time and Rx to comments.
This WOD is a doozie and we’ll have scaling options available as usual. Aside from scaling bar weight and pull ups we’ll have a partner version of the workout. Partners will complete the full runs together and split up the volume on the squats, power cleans, and pull ups however they desire.
The CrossFit community recently lost 19 members of Granite Mountain Hotshots firefighting team who tragically lost their lives on June 30, 2013 while fighting a fire in Yarnell, AZ. CrossFit recently organized a fundraising workout with the CrossFit Kids Foundation where 100% of the donations will be distributed to the families. As a sign of solidarity, CFSBK will be programming the memorial workout today. If you’d like to donate to the cause, you can do so directly online here. Alternatively, CFSBK will be accepting cash donations day of which we will then match via online donation. There is no requirement or minimums and all donations will be kept anonymous.

That. Was. Intense.
8 am with melo. 42 lb bar, partnered with worm, 29:08. Really proud of us… Definitely pushed as hard as we could and it feels great. Now, at least. During? Not so much. But a great workout to honor some really amazing people.

Partnered with Charie who was great. I probably slowed him down.
We finished at about 33:15. The worst part was the rush of heat when entering the gym. Glad the gym did this.

I went solo. 48:10 (Thanks for letting me go long). 75 lbs. Banded pull-ups. Hard. Sore.

@Kate R- thanks! Great to do this work-out with you.
You kept us focused on the cause, moving on the runs, and it was you who bumped us up to 75# on the cleans, lady!
So happy I caught you at OG last night. I really liked this one.

Partner less Hotshots 19 did 55 lbs should have gone much higher but when i saw 6 rounds i thought 55 was going to be very heavy by round 3 but they were very light for some reason and pull ups were banded finished all 6 rounds at 27:00 very proud and glad we did this workout!!

did this today partner style at 10am with ellie.
31:18 at 93#
-we did 30 squats each and alternated each round between 10 and 9 cleans and 3, 4 chinups.
-I was able to do all of my cleans unbroken except for the 5th round when I got lazy. the runs felt surprisingly good.
-Really fun workout and glad we tackled this partner style. It would have been a miserable 40+ minutes going solo.
Great way to start my Saturday!

Partnered with Willie at 95lbs and a row instead of the run. After the second round I was envious of everyone running at least there was some air movement outside. The gym was stagnant and hot. We chipped away at it and finished in 33:40. Cleans are my goat and I'm sure they slowed us down but I think Willie blasting through them helped. Being a firefighter I'm really glad that CFSBK did this to honor the brothers that made the supreme sacrifice. It's screwed up that though all these guys died doing the same job but will not recieve the same line of duty death benedits. Most of them were working full time during the high season of wildfires but since they were only "seasonal" they're families who are now fatherless or husband-less or brotherless or sonless are left without the same benefits that their "full time" brothers received. Glad the crossfit community could contribute to righting this wrong.

Did this at 75 with Kmo, who draaaaged my sorry ass through all 6 rounds at a grueling pace. This is maybe the closest I've ever come to barfing, and the first time I've ever had to walk a part of a run. Oof.

Luke,
Thanks for the additional information about the benefits, news to me and makes me feel even better that the gym could do this. And thank you for your service.

Wow I can't imagine doing full volume. I thought I was working at a good clip but apparently was on track for an hour full version. Wasn't resting very much on the power cleans, chins or squats which just means that my "running" was snails pace. Felt great to do this outside on the sidewalk in just my skull short shorts. Also- a couple of visiting CrossFitters from out of state saw me doing this and gave me some love for a few minutes. #awesome
Squats: Slow pace but unbroken
Power Cleans: Just kept chipping at singles until I fnished
Pulls: unbroken first round then 4-3
Runs: Barely.

Missed morning classes after overcelebrating last night. Felt angry at myself for no showing after pushing to do this WOD at the gym. Got my shit together, had breakfast with some great people, and went to the gym.
Hotshots RXed, 45:13. Wasn't really concerned about my time, just wanted to keep moving, limit rests, and try and go somewhere interesting in my head. Hero WODs, especially one so timely, relevant, and tragic as this one, always put my mind in an interesting place. This was no exception. Picked up steam throughout the workout, finished and laid on the ground outside, watching the clouds roll by. Nice to think that a large chunk of our community had a similar experience today and that we are all holding these brave guys and their families in our hearts.
To me, this is what its all about.

10 AM with Melo.
Finished the workout RX at around ~42 mins. Thanks to Melo and McDizzle for letting Shawn/Sean (sp) and I finish. Felt good. Didn't think I would be able to do all the cleans at 135lb. Performed singles and dropped the bar each time to save the grip. The run was brutal. Sprinted the last 130m because I felt bad how slow I ran the first 5 rounds.
I think I've cleaned enough for the month. No cleaning for me tomorrow.

11am class with McDowell and Josh.
Partnered with Matt for Hotshots 19. We finished in 36:02 at 135 lbs.
We broke everything up: 15 squats each per round, alternated 9 and 10 cleans and 3 and 4 pull-ups/chin-ups. The name of the game today was to keep moving, which I think we did well. Matt's not a big fan of running and strict chins are still a goat of mine, but we managed to stick to the strategy we came up with at the start of the WOD.
Think it was fitting, giving how much these Hotshot crews must rely on each other while fighting a fire, that so many people took this on in a team today. The blog is full of great stories of teamwork (and we saw a lot of it today in class). Thanks for programming this one, management!

Great workout, I enjoy the longer Wod's.
and speaking of firefighters: cheers to Luke especially since his firehouse is across the street from my step-mom.
I was solo today, unbroken squats and 53lbs on the cleans. First and last clean set unbroken. On the last I kept myself motivated by thinking that the 19 cleans had the name of an AZ firefighter associated with it. And I rowed instead of the run to ease my aching heel and Achilles. Pullups with a gr band and, again, only first and last unbroken.
When I finally looked up at the clock it read 38:40.
Amazing thing that all the crossfits across the country did this. Last I checked the online donations are almost $126k. https://hotshots19.crossfit.com/

Had a blast at the 8am with melo. I woke up this morning with some severe tenderness in my plantar fascia (I now why… My own fault). Came in anyway because I wanted to do this workout so bad. Melo showed me this nice calf mash with a band on a Paralette. That combined with a lax ball underfoot had me feeling maybe 75%, so I taped it up and went for it.
Melo, I'm pretty sure you cleaned up that Paralette torture device while I was taping… Sorry!
Wod at 115 in 38:50. Cleans were pretty smooth and I wish I'd gone for the rx weight. I don't think it would have slowed me down. Pull ups were my goat on this one, plus my bum foot slowed the runs a good bit.
Thanks to whoever cleaned up my barbell when I went past the time cap to finish. Apologies, and I really appreciate it!

1pm class. Did this solo, scaled to 95# for the cleans. Finished four rounds plus 30 squats, 19 cleans, 1 pull-up when the buzzer hit 35 minutes.
Squats: great pace all the way through
Cleans: 95# was the right weight. It was hard, but I was able to do sets of 4/5 all the way.
Pull-ups: 2 rounds unbroken, then 4/3
Runs: really freaking slow. I guess they were technically runs, but felt more like a moderately aggressive shuffle.
Luca says
Silly d_fung, you took the 9 am class
Dave Fung says
@Luca I did the workout again at 10 AM. Back to back. Didn't get enough at 9AM. 228 reps of cleans.
