Who was your childhood hero? What about now?

Late night lifting yesterday:
Warm-UpLots of Foam Roller and mobility
Back Squat(45×5, 95×5, 115×5)135x5x3
Patellar tendon pain isn’t really making progress, no better and no worse. It actually feels better with some weight on my back but I can still feel it a bit when i squat so I’m keeping it really conservative. I think im going to see that ART guy that Chris J saw to get another opinion.
3 Rounds for Time:25 GHD Sit-Ups5 75lb Dumbbell Power Snatches (right arm only)~10:15 didnt redline, just did it somewhat quickly.
I’ve been increasing the volume on the GHD. I started at 3 sets of 8 reps a couple weeks ago and have been adding reps every time I do a workout. Feels great.

From yesterday’s question:I like the idea of rewarding flexibility but most pure flexibility tests are pretty lame. the Sit and reach is a classic example but is really just a display of how much you can round your back in a seated position.
I wonder if we can do something with the odd objects. Maybe a keg carry or clean and jerk bench mark? something with the prowler? hmm

damn, this stuff looks fun!
this YouTube video from TheStrengthBox was linked to from Mark’s Daily Apple, but fun enough that i wanted to repost. my favorite is the Turkish get-up with the baby!

i wish my hero was a quantum physicist when I younger.
I can’t say that i’ve ever felt like I had a hero growing up. My current heroes are pterodactyls, for obvious reasons.

Don Mattingly, The Hulk, and my Grandfather. Donny Baseball taught me about honoring your work no matter the surrounding circumstance, the big green fella taught me that anger can be used for good, and Papa taught me how to swim and body-surf, plus he could walk on his hands from the beach blanket all the way to the water. He always wore a cap with style, and was a pretty cool dude.
Nowadays, fictionally, I prefer anti-heroes like Tyler Durden and Tommy Gavin. I guess I’d have to call Greg Glassman a hero of mine too for what he started.

So yesterday I visited Lost Battalion Hall with Nicole and Gerrit. What an interesting atmosphere! Spent about 1.5 hours working on my Snatch. Learned alot from Joe there so big thanks to him.
Today:6pm Active Recovery class–today’s class was hands down my favorite so far. Lots of good stuff for my tight calves, hamstrings, lats, etc, etc. Can’t believe more people aren’t taking advantage of this…
7pm Clean & Jerk-Warmup press, push press, and jerk drills with 33lb bar.-Moved on to C&J’s: (53×3, 73×3)-Then singles of: 83, 93, 103, 113(PR), 123f, 118f.-Tried to squat clean everything from 103 on, but this feels like a very weird position for me. Need to practice this landing more! Thanks Jeremy for the great coaching. Need to work on opening my hip all the way before dropping under the bar. And of course not to pull with my arms as the weight gets heavier!
-Finished with about 10mins of double-under practice. The most I got was 56, but not a PR. I don’t know if I have the gas to ever catch up to Noah! Pretty damn impressive. I can consistently hit 30-40 though so I’ll take that.-Nice job to Jessy who PR’d on his 37 or so du’s! Looked pretty good from what I saw!
-Welcome back Julie! Great seeing you!

Meant to post earlier that I would love to get practice/coaching on the sled drags before the subway series on Saturday. Could these at all be incorporated into our accesssory work soon? I don’t want to repeat my awful prowler showing at the regionals! 😉

did a little doozie of a wod with david.
3 rounds of15 OHS @ 70#2 rope climbs
couldn’t stay balanced for a lot of the OHS and became really frustrated. also encountered REALLY BAD rope burn by climb #2 so the last 4 were…rough.
overall enjoyed the wod though it sucked at the time and really was mentally frustrating. 20 minutes or something like that, but i really didn’t worry about the time component and just wanted to get through it.
also worked on some KB cleans

oh, and childhood heroes were the NY Yankees (mainly Paul O’Neil, but i loved them all, and still do) and Jackie Joyner-Kersee
today, hands down, my dad.

Childhood hero: She-Ra. Now that I think about it, maybe that’s why I’ve persevered with crossfit?Eased back in after a long vacation with the Active Recovery class- would definitely recommend it and came away with some flexibility exercises to do regularly at home.Nice to see everyone again!
