Don’t have a favorite really, but I can name the bar I’ve closed out the most often: Rudy’s (44th and 9th). The old jukebox here was a classic, and it’s a crime that it vanished. $8 pitchers of Beck just couldn’t be beat.
st dymphnas – very good guinness and irish breakfast.
henry public – a good local.
white horse tavern – historic. brendan behan used to drink there.
decibel–the most dangerous one. serious sake
st andrews – good scottish pub. they even serve haggis.
fitzpatricks hotel – very good pint of guinness.
dba – very good whiskey bar
pravda – very good vodka bar

I haven’t been much of a bar hopper of late, but my favorites used to be Angel’s Share in the East village, for fancy, and International Bar, also in the East Village, for the kick ass juke box. Homestead (no longer with us)runs a close third for very funny characters. Someone there offered to buy me from my husband for $50. Hmf. I’m worth at least a cool $150.
canal bar (3rd ave and union). buckets of mini (very paleo) beers, free (very paleo) popcorn and a small backyard. very unpretentious, very awesome.

Hands down my favorite bar, Sunnys in Red Hook. Only open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the back room fills up with 10-15 local folk musicians who play all night long while you sip beer and hot toddys. It’s almost too good to be true.Best off, if you don’t like in red hook, it’s hard to get to.

vodka – pravdadark and date nighty – nfancy drinks – apothekesuits – 230 Fifthwine (& local) – stonehome wine bar (their menu is nice as well)
I’ll stop the list here as this could continue on for awhile..

@asta wow 230 5th is back in action on a night like tonight! That is a GOOD spot.
For expensive, well-made drinks, I like Angel’s Share and Little Branch. For free, well-made drinks, I like my own fully stocked bar. Commonwealth for its jukebox and proximity. Sidecar for a mix of all the aforementioned qualities.
But honestly, I don’t have a favorite bar. I guess Joe and I have been drinking in each other’s apartments too much.
felt like trying a max since i haven’t done one in a long time. might have gotten to 345 if i was more aggressive with my jumps. but with a shaky groin it was best to take it slow. played with some overhead squats to see how my groin is progressing. 45×5, 65×5, 95×5, 115×2 then my groin said stop, so i did.
i was then bamboozled into doing sundays workout with shawn and samir. why oh why did i agree to do it. subbed rowing for the run and did pp-95#, row-500,400,300,200.
12:10~
major suckage throughout. i was breathing heavy after the first row. glad to at least get my first met con out of the way. shoulder felt okay just had the usual issues getting to a full lockout.
Made up 5×3 deadlifts at 225#. Same as exposure 1 after a weak exposure 2, but much better form this time.
Afterwards, I hung around to do 3 sets of 8 kipping pull-ups and 3 sets of 8 knees to elbows, with a lot of toes to bar mixed in the latter. Then 200 double-unders, with a new PR of 51 linked. Feels great to be back.

run push press WOD.
12:25 @ 95lbsMerry Christmas.I think this is the second WOD ive finished at 12:25.
I wonder how I wouldve fared at 115. I didnt even try because in warmups 95 felt heavy. Im figuring I coulda added 3-4 more minutes.
I actually missed the last 130m of the 800 today and had to make it up on the second cycle.
Its such an interesting WOD cause like half your work is done after the 1st set. I think I couldve ran harder the 1st 800m, but you just never know so you don’t wanna empty the gas tank.

Thanks for the reminder Laurel, otherwise it would have been death by burpee!

Naturally, this can’t be answered in the singular!
East side – Elaine’s, my uncle is the bartender
West side – Stone Rose, that’s as far up as I go on west side. Good drinks, good view.
Downtown – Ulysses is tough to beat outside on a Thursday.
Midtown – Keen’s Steakhouse. Love that bar…quiet little place.
Spring/Summer thirsty thursdays – The Standard. Why? The scenery!
good, old school bars –
There are lots of these and all are great but here are some that I enjoy:
White Horse Cafe – Famous, great history, great bartenders
Peter McManus Cafe – Goldentee and great jukebox
Ear Inn – Great place in the winter, good music, great bar, alleges to be oldest bar in city.
Flannery’s – if you are in the village and need an irish bar, this is legit and the only game in town.
Winter, for scotch – Brandy Library.
These are a few of my favorite spots.
