Due to an ongoing event at SBK, Saturday's 10am CrossFit Group class will be canceled on 3/6, 3/13, 3/20 and 3/27. Classes at 8am, 9am, 11am and 12p as well as the teaser are on as usual. We will resume 10am group classes April 3rd.
Check out our local Lululemon Athletica's CrossFit South Brooklyn window display up all this month! Whitney, Christina Jessy and Sam did an amazing job representing us! Don't forget to stop in and say hello.
What do "Angie", "Cindy", "Chelsea" and "Barbara" all have in common? How are they different workouts?

What’s similar:We haven’t done any of them in a while.Movements are disimilar enough that muscles can recover enough for the next round they’re needed. Allows for maximum intensity to be applied during the workout. They all have pull-ups, push-ups, and squats in them.
What’s disimilar:Some are task priority, others are time priority.Volume of work can be vastly different depending on the capability of the person.Chelsea never seems to pop up as a workout – ever.
Dan Rx'd says
If anyone was curious, these are the 3(!) times that Chelsea has appeared on the CrossFit main site.
The last time was January 5, 2004…

My bad, there was a 4th one on November 5, 2004http://www.crossfit.com/mt-archive2/000595.html

Beat me to it! I read your post and went on .com to find out when the last time it came up was. Sure has been a long time. Personally, I’ve never done Chelsea, I imagine it would feel like the dumbbell bear.
How would you describe these workouts metabolically?
Dan says
Metabolically:
For Cindy it looks like the volume of reps is designed to primarily stress the glocolytic energy pathway, with a secondary focus on the oxidative pathway.
Angie exhausts the glycolytic pathway, and then stresses the oxidative pathway.
Barbara (for those who are fast enough) can have each round completed prior to the glycolytic pathway being exhausted. With the 3 minutes of rest, the Oxidative isn’t stressed as heavily.
Chelsea seems to tap into the Glycolytic pathway, giving enough time to recover at the end of the round and wreck yourself for the next round.
For those with really fast pull-ups and push-ups, you can likely tap only into the phosphagenic pathway for all of the reps of those exercises with the 5-10-15 rep scheme.

Interesting article that calls into question the basis for the paleo diet, if not its effectiveness:

glycolitic seems like it should be a word that would describe how I feel right now since i just scarfed down a sticky rice with taro wrapped in banana leaf dessert.
Mmmm I mean ugh.

I wish I were Jessica Bailey:)
This morning’s workout:
-5×8 elevated pushups, hole #1 on the squat rack-snatch practice-did sunday’s WOD at 1 pood (yeah!) but did 15 20″ box jumps instead of 30 du’s (boo). Maybe I’m biased but I thought box jumps were way harder. 6 rounds even.
Jessica Bailey says
Thanks Regan, I love you too!
Jeremy says
Metabolically they are all mostly Aerobic with varying levels of Glycolytic contribution.
Creatine-Phosphate contribution is pretty negligible as it taps at out at about 10 seconds and takes about 3-5 minutes to recharge, you’d nee to have a hell of a Barbara time for it to be a energy source of any importance on these workouts. The Glycolytic or Lactic pathway tops out at 2min and generally requires a rest interval equal to about twice the work interval to recharge to a significant degree.
Any activity longer than 2mins is going to be primarily fueled by the Aerobic pathway.

Good warm up with Jeremy. Shane and Jeremy push jerk clinic. They felt great at 90 pounds. Can’t wait for the cycle.
1/2 Angie – 13:38. 40 (blue band), 50-50-50
I’m the only one who slows down on squats. Whatever…
Regan says
Snip. Don’t tell Jess, but I totally love you too. PS Congratumalations!
