regarding the workout; huge thanks go out to Eric for keeping me on pace, and to Mike for driving me forward and bringing the game. with chippers like this it is difficult to keep a mental focus, a game plan, that will allow you to finish the workout in a good time. after i was finished, i was unbelievable congested and had a difficult time breathing, still as i take deep breaths right now, later in the day, my trachea feels tired.
regarding the lyceum; honestly, i won’t really miss it. the memories that i have are of the people, the workouts and the amazing performances that result as a combination of those two, not the space. i have posted it before and i will utter it again, the people that i (and we) workout with make the price of admission worthwhile. it is one thing to see times and loads posted on a website and another to see someone, near you, perform those tasks. in many ways, it is not the heavy weight or the speed that inspire me, certainly the analogy of here is a man (or woman) doing the WOD but faster or heavier puts an immediacy and realness in front of me, but the struggle, the overcoming of difficulties, the learning of new skills and abilities creates an atmosphere of accomplishment and success. and i do not think that we will lose that in the new space. if anything the effort that people put into the move, and the final workout, and the energy given out to both tasks, is just an indication of future accomplishments and greatness.

I also want to echo Leo, when I first walked into the Lyceum last January I thought, wow what an awesome looking space. And then noticed that it was miserably cold.
I would be a touch scared that something about the community would change in the move, but I have seen that we are CrossFit South Brooklyn, whether we are on the road competing or supporting our athletes, or at a restaurant behaving in exemplar ways. Case and point, tonight after everyone moved heavy stuff for 2 hours, we got about 40 (rough estimate) people into Sheep Station for about 4 hours and racked up a bill of over 700 bucks, but when the cash was counted we had enough extra to leave an extra big tip and then buy an extra few drinks. That is just classy no matter where you put the people.
On the Brooklyn Lyceum wod, I wanted to do everything as Rx’d for this goodbye dance, even if it killed me.
So as Rx’d for me meant, 95lb thrusters (ugh), 24 inch box jumps (in honor of Katie all jump up jump down no stepping – thanks for helping me kill that weasel). And 225lb deadlifts. Also counted only successful double unders, which are still ugly as sin. I was proud of my pullups, after the first 5 I switched to the skinny bar and got my last 20 unbroken.
Wow was that challenging but super fun. My burpees were the only thing modified as I used knees to get up. Was moving pretty good until I got to the deadlifts. Only able to get about 3 at a time.
The move was extra challenging after today’s wod, especially moving those damn mats. I’m completely exhausted but I thoroughly enjoyed spending the afternoon/evening socializing and celebrating with many sbk’ers. What a great turnout! Much love to you all and we’ll see you in the new space!

Scaled the box jumps to 20″, did 30 as step ups. I should have rx’d it, but I just don’t feel safe with those 24″ boxes. Still, not pleased about scaling back.
Burpees suck.
Thrusters seemed heavier then I expected. The day before I’d done a bunch at 65 lbs, that might be why. Sets were mostly 4’s and 3’s.
I was thinking the deadlifts would be cake. Not the case. Broke down as 5-10-8-2. Didn’t take too long, but I thought I was going to go unbroken… not a chance.
Double-unders, I just don’t understand our relationship. Some days they click, others they’re awful. The first 30 took forever. Last 20 were unbroken. I don’t understand why.
Pull-ups, I think were sets of 5. Might have started with 10, don’t recall.
Burpees sucked ever worse.

The Brooklyn Lyceum:
50 burpees – most mod25 thrusters – started w/ 15 lb dumbbells then switched to 10 bc my arms were shaking so bad from the burpees…LAME!50 box jumps – 20″, all jumps!25 deadlifts – was supposed to do 85 lbs, but when I got up to the bar there was only 65 on there, so i did that. whoops.50 double under attempts – made about 2025 jumping pull ups50 mod burpees
Whew…then on to the move. My least favorite was pulling up the mats and seeing what was under there. No dead rats though, which was surprising. The new space looks great; I think we’ll have a lot of fun there!
Off to bed. I’ve already got a steak marinating for tomorrow…

Oh, I forgot. My time was 27:35…or maybe 29:35. I know exactly what Fox means about everyone sounding like Charlie Brown characters afterward.
Also, was extremely grateful for Jenna counting my burpees and convincing me I wasn’t having a heart attack. Thanks, bitch!

It was great to see the new space and hang out with everyone after the move. I’m looking forward to making many sweat angels on those floors.

Yikes! That was supposed to be 135# deadlifts, woops!

btw, the deadlifts were unexpectedly fucking horrible. I really expected them to be easy, but they were bad. several other people I talked to felt similarly.

28:39 with 155# DLs, all else as Rx’d. Counted DU attempts and DUs–made about 35 DUs I would guess. Thanks Jess for counting me through the last 50 burpees, and David for standing there 2 inches from my face and not letting me stop for the last 15. I learned a bit about pain tolerance. Like Laurel, I need a bigger one.
Great fun at Sheep Station! Do you think we could convince them to sustainably source their meats if we keep leaving tips like that?

Was manageable until the last set of burpees where it became a total suckfest. All burpees were done on my knuckles because of my wrist issue which made them even suckier.
