Charlotte — I’ve got a Surly CrossCheck too! I f’n LOVE it — bought it when I moved from Park Slope to Windsor Terrace specifically because of all the things in PS that I need to get to on a regular basis (826NYC, CrossFit, Joe W.’s apartment to drink bourbon). I’ve also ridden it to Bay Ridge to drop off my rent check. Deb’s right: the heightened awareness does add to the excitement.
Oh, and I don’t get on my bike without a helmet. I mean, Jesus: have you SEEN NYC drivers? You gamble with your life to not wear one.
I’m going to have to disagree with everyone about NY drivers. I would much rather ride in New York with drivers who are used to looking out for bikers and pedestrians than in other cities and towns where no one is looking… that said, I (almost) always wear a helmet.

I have a ten year old steel frame Lemond road bike. I used to ride a lot before:
1. I was hit head on by a car on the wrong side of the road.
2. I was broad-sided by a guy on a mountain bike who ran a red light and didn’t see me.
3. An old brown Honda Civic pulled along side me, the passenger side window rolled down, and I was blasted in the face with a Super-Soaker while traveling at 35 mph. I couldn’t see. Crashed.
Now when I get on a bike, I am immediately angry, and ready for a fight. It isn’t fun.
What about skis? Does anybody else collect skis like Deb collects bikes?

A decade plus a couple of years ago, when I was still a cool kid, I had a BMX bike. Now it serves my mother as a clothes horse.

I didn’t have a stop watch but I guess it probably took me an hour to get through this.
Then I did a lot of Curls and French Presses because Scott’s arms are pretty awesome.

I have a bike that I know nothing about except I think it is pretty but wish it were prettier. I hardly ride it but when I do I wear a helmet.
I hate riding in bad weather and was totally amazed at Paul riding home in the rain after class yesterday.

Matt, we must be neighbors! We live in Windsor Terrace too. Or as we casually refer to it, the WT.

See…I knew that was a good question.I’m sorry Milo & I missed climbing. We had to squeeze in dinner and homework (first grade sucks these days) and it just didn’t seem feasible. We shall plan better next time.

Congrats Mike!
I don’t own a bike. Although I’m super tempted.
And I’d be down for joining a team for fight gone belated.
