Brett has always been drawn to the physical challenges of athletics and weight training. Growing up in Syracuse, NY, he was an All-State soccer (defense) and lacrosse (midfield) player in high school. After a 5 year journey in the bodybuilding world in his 20s, Brett decided to try CrossFit here at CFSBK in January of 2014. Drawn to the community and coaching at CFSBK, Brett moved to Seattle (you didn’t see that coming, did you?) then to San Fransisco, Ohio, Europe (16-week backpacking trip), and finally back to Brooklyn in 2016 to join the staff as a full-time coach. Since joining the ranks at CFSBK, Brett started and runs the popular Short Circuit interval-training classes, co-created both the Fit 55+ and Strong Fit classes, and expanded his role in the community as the gym’s Event Coordinator.
Brett has been a personal trainer for over ten years and a CrossFit Coach for the last four. He shadowed the physical therapists in the office connected to the Boston Sports Club where he start his training career to learn about helping people recover from injuries and surgeries. Since then he has always wanted to help people move better, gain strength and confidence inside and outside of the gym, help to promote a healthy lifestyle, and generally be an approachable dude. Though lack of cartilage in his knees has sidelined his dreams of CrossFit World Dominance, he still enjoys flinging himself up on the rings and handstand walking around the gym.
Education and Certifications include: BA in both Jazz Bass Performance and Public Speaking from Denison University, CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, CrossFit Weightlifting, CrossFit Gymnastics, NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, TRX Group Trainer.
